There are such amazing sci-fi movies out there, some of the best are on the poll, but seriously, Star Wars tops them all. It's a titan that will never die, with it's only competition being Lord of the Rings.

Actually, it is. It's a fictional story set in a dystopian, 'near-future' conception of Britain, and is largely grounded in fantasy. I can see how it could be thought of as not being sci-fi, considering its themes and representation aren't typical of conventional sci-fi depictions (or, they're just not as vivid in their representation). It isn't categorized solely as a sci-fi, but it is widely recognized as fitting within this genre (as a number of reputable sources will inform you of).

You should have asked, "What's your favourite sci-fi film", because that's what most people have answered. The "greatest" ought to be the greatest for everybody; a statement of fact- this would require the proposal and acceptance of criteria according to which the films could be ranked.

H2G2 isn't one of them though. However good the original stuff was.

Out of that list I'd say Jurassic park - I love me some dinosaurs!
But off that list, I really loved Signs
