Best Cheap Places to Eat Near Newcastle Uni
As the exam period approaches, a lot of students seem to satisfy their hunger during study breaks with a lot of 'junk food'. While the usual fast food exists in abundance, as do a small selection of expensive sit down restaurants, I am wondering where I can find the local eateries which provide good, healthy, quick food. Anyone have recommendations for some good cheap eats nearby?

Re: Best Cheap Places to Eat Near Newcastle Uni
Probably a few but my mind has gone blank.......
It's not close to the university, being on the Quayside, but have you tried Bob Trollop's? It's a vegetarian pub, on Sandhill, near the Tyne Bridge. So it is a bit of a walk away (and hike uphill when going back to the university).
I'll be back tomorrow when my brain is more rested.
Edit: - Oh yeah, there is, or certainly was, a salsa cafe and tapas bar (doing salads and soups) on Westgate Road. Again, not too close to the university, but Newcastle city centre is compact so it's not too far. I don't know what it's like though.Last edited by River85; 20-04-2012 at 21:01. -

The usual studenty pubs like The Crows Nest and The Hancock (practically on campus) do good pub grub
The Old Library Building Cafe (on Newcastle Uni campus) is good for lunch
Blake's on Grey Street is good and cheap
Wagamama in Eldon Square is one of my favourites
Pret is full of rahs but does yummy salads/sandwiches and is close to uni -

Nudo and St Sushi - both serve noodles and rice dishes etc, and both pretty cheap, can get main courses from about £6.50 at Nudo. Nudo is on the street behind The Gate if you walk between The Gate and Tiger Tiger, and St Sushi Westgate Road.
Taste of Persia which serves grilled meats, stews, dips and nan breads. Down near Times Square.
Red Mezze, it's Turkish and pretty much serves the above minus the stews. Opposite Barker & Stonehouse at St James's.
Little Saigon - cheap Vietnamese place down the Bigg Market, a few doors down from Blu Bambu. There's a Greek place round there too but i can't remember the name of it.
