    Personally, I wouldn't - I like to know a camera has a clear history.

It depends where it is refurbished from, this is just a general example as I don't know much about cameras but PC World refurbs are usually pretty bad, where as Dell refurbs are normally in really good condition.

I don't know if canon do it, but with some brands you can get manufacturer refurb. So if this is refurbed by Canon or an officially designated partner and comes with a canon warranty then it is an option when budgets are limited. If not then I am with thesownrose.

I'm in the same situation, a canon sx130 from argos, it is refurbished and has a 1 year warranty, what do you think?

Canon have a refurb shop on eBay, and to be honest I'd trust a camera refurbed by Canon more than I would one that had just come off the production line - in that it's been through quality control twice and actually should theoretically have a lower chance of going wrong. As others have said, it's entirely down to who it was refurbed by. If it was Canon, then go for it. If it was by a third party, then I'd only trust proper camera shops like Ffords, LCE, Mifsuds, places like that.

If you can see the camera in person, take your laptop with you. There should be a program around somewhere that'll tell you the shutter count of any Canon camera plugged into it, if I recall correctly. Magic Lantern does it for me on my 50D, but I doubt the seller would approve of you booting firmware up off a card whacked into their camera

I bought a 500d from eBay for £320 a course months ago from Canon Refurbs It's literally like its brand new . Although you should check if there is any damage to it.
