Nursing Accommodation at the University of Manchester !
Hey, i was just wondering where all the nurses are applying for accommodation in Manchester and where the best places would be?
That is - good for transport to the uni and different placements, good for an active social life but quiet at the same time for being on placement?
At the minute im thinking of fallowfield, particularly oak house, linton hall or richmond park. Let me know what yous think!
Thanks!

Re: Nursing Accommodation at the University of Manchester !
Lots of my friends are nurses including one of my flatmates. (whitworth park.) I think the main thing you need to enquire about is making sure your halls have the longer contracts rather than the standard 40 weeks, because you're up here for longer than anyone else ( I think it's up until July)
In terms of transport Manchester has excellent transport so wherever you live you should be able to get to places fine. Seeing as you won't get your placement until christmas it's hard to choose a halls based on where would be near to your placement, my flatmate is just across the road from us in the MRI, where as I know others in stockport and salford.
also linton halls is postgrad, so you might wanna choose another option

Re: Nursing Accommodation at the University of Manchester !
Hi! I've got my conditional for adult nursing in september and im looking at accommodation too!
I think im going to put down Victoria Hall, Wright Robinson and Whitworth Park.
I quite liked Oak House but I was told to avoid Fallowfield as it can be really loud 24/7 with people doing 8-10 hour a week courses and il be doing 36 hours a week? :\ xx -
Re: Nursing Accommodation at the University of Manchester !i've been saying how much i needed an ensuite especially for doing nursing cause of all the odd hours we could be coming and going at until i started lookin into what other students are saying about their uni experience. A lot of them say that an ensuite can be a waste of money, some even say the extra tenner spent to have a sink in your room is a waste and that sharing a bathroom isnt actually too bad so i think ive given up on the whole ensuite thing.(Original post by charlottehattonx)
I was thinking more victoria hall because it has an en-suite but I think i've left it too late because I hear they get snapped up really quickly, but I'm in the same boat!
xx
below is a link to a thread i was on. the third comment down on the first page has links showing all the different accommodation in manchester and picture of their rooms and kitchens and stuff. i found it really helpful, maybe you will too

Re: Nursing Accommodation at the University of Manchester !
I'll have a look thanks
), although I think I've left it a bit too late now for an ensuite anyway, the whole fighting for the bathroom when I need to be on placement doesn't sound too appealing to me.. But I'm sure I'm exaggerating and I'll manage

Re: Nursing Accommodation at the University of Manchester !I'm shared bathroom, come at a variety of normal and non-normal times of day, and I can genuinely say that I have only found the shower occupied when I've wanted to use it on three occasions. One of those occasions was when I randomly found a workman in there repainting, and the other two were a flatmate using it. On both occasions, I just went and used the other one - certainly in Oak House, there are two showers per flat.(Original post by charlottehattonx)

you'll be surprised that even though it's shared nobody really showers at the same. I know in my flat I've never once had to wait for a shower as there's usually two.
and if you're doing the placement hours my friends do this year, I doubt there'd be any fighting unless on the absolutely rare chance you end up in a flat with nurses or something, seeing as most of their shift are like 7-3. I don't know many students who usually shower at 6am that aren't nurses

It should be noted, however, that this is not normal student behaviour! -
Re: Nursing Accommodation at the University of Manchester !Hey, I have applied to Oak House too it is in fallowfield, my friend who is in her 2nd year at Manchester Recommended it. I think it has a good social life it is massive and even if your working 36 hours a week and they are only doing ten doesn't mean you can't make friends, no matter what halls you are at you are more than likely to be with most people doing 8-10 hour courses. x(Original post by mollybeth123)

I was just browsing through the accomodation threads for Nursing because I can't find any for 2013 entry
I've got an unconditonal offer for Adult Nursing 2013 september entry.
I wanted to know which you went for in the end? I'm torn between Whitworth Park and Oak House. (I'm sorry in advance for all the questions!
)
I'm not a massive party animal (i.e. I don't drink much) but I do want to socialise, but still get my work done in the end. With fallowfields there's a big party scene which I'm worried I might not fit into, but I'm worried that Whitworth park might be too quite lol.
Where do most nursing students choose to live?
So is fallowfields easy enough to work in? Even with placements and essays is there time to socialise and do others mind if you don't go out every night?
And what is Whitworth park like? Is there an even mix of international/home students?
Sorry for all the questions, and any answers would be really appreciated x -
Re: Nursing Accommodation at the University of Manchester !Check out the first few pages of this thread here for some ideas (I wrote a massive post on WP.) I think a good social life/work balance is achievable in most halls if you want it to be that way. I lived in whitworth park so I am biased and will always pick there for preference, especially because I know so many nurses who lived there last year and did well aswell as having a good social life.(Original post by Ally312)

I was looking at that thread when I was trying to balance the pros/cons. If you don't mind me asking, why did you pick WP?
I want to pick it because I know it will be slightly quieter. Although I do want to have a social life, I know I can go out and get one while getting quiet wouldn't be as easy lol. And also it's closer to campus and I'm lazy
And as a side note: How did you find the nursing course in the first year?
