Why is TSR so disproportionately representative of the student population?
You guys just don't seem to represent the student population, the views on this site are just mind blowing sometimes.
Maybe when you get behind a computer it changes you, increasing nerdiness and anti alcohol, anti clubbing and anti socialising are all traits of the typical student?.... I think not.
Just thought I would say, anyone else agree? -
Re: Why is TSR so disproportionately representative of the student population?
The amount of A*s is obviously disproportional and the problem is that you have to have some nerdiness(I'm quite nerdy) to even visit the site because most people go on Facebook, when they are on a computer and don't research about/ask help/boast about exams and when they are not on a computer they are socialising, which most people on here never seem to do and I personally don't.

Re: Why is TSR so disproportionately representative of the student population?
I don't think TSR has ever claimed to be 100% representative of the student population - its fairly straight-forward logic that people who are going to join a study forum are the ones liable to have a higher investment in their education and learning, meaning that TSR is highly skewed towards the more academic students. Other samples of students would consider the site nerdy and boring, which accounts for the disparities.

Re: Why is TSR so disproportionately representative of the student population?
There are 1.8 million undergraduate students in the UK, not all of them fit the traits you've pointed out. How can you even get an accurate view point from so many represented on this site?
TSR isn't made up of just University students either, they are those aged from GCSE's-A-levels and perhaps those who are younger, and then those who work, ex students etc. With the amount of people on here from different countries, races, religions and ages etc of course they're not all going to fit a sterotype. -
Re: Why is TSR so disproportionately representative of the student population? No! That's what I come on here for. Don't get me started again.(Original post by narusku)
rant over yet? -
Re: Why is TSR so disproportionately representative of the student population?I agree with this, you are very right everyone is different. However this doesn't make a stereotype incorrect for a large proportion of that population e.g. chavs wearing nike?(Original post by KJane)

There is a stereotypical student and then there is the stereotypical TSR student. The difference is quite astounding, I feel.
However yes everyone is different, but lets not be so pedantic about that.Last edited by iSMark; 21-04-2012 at 00:18. -
Re: Why is TSR so disproportionately representative of the student population? You d raise a good point because my internet personality is a lot different than my real personality.(Original post by Bellissima)
because it's the internet, it's not exclusive to TSR.. the whole internet is disproportionally representative of what people are like in normal life...

Re: Why is TSR so disproportionately representative of the student population?I would agree. Internet gives you something to hide behind.(Original post by Dalek1099)
You d raise a good point because my internet personality is a lot different than my real personality.
e.g. all those guys on omegle/random webcam chat sites, aren't representative of those who actually flash girls in the streets. -
Re: Why is TSR so disproportionately representative of the student population? There is a wide range but there is also a core of people who make this place very un-studenty...(Original post by Powersymphonia)
There's a wide range of people on this site from all cultures and backgrounds. I think you need to spend more time browsing the forums to realise this.
