Issue with liquid and mobile phones bans
i have complained to both LOCOG and the Games Maker support centre about the liquid restriction of 100ml, the flasks ban and the ban on mobile phones.

I am a First Responder at the Olympic Site so will be doing a lot of physical activity therefore it is essential that I can bring in energy drinks to allow me to do my duty. it also bans the carrying of bottles, even plastic ones and flasks!

Also it says under the restricted item list no "electronic transmitting equipment" may be brought in. Since mobile phones are electronic transmitting equipment we cannot bring those in and since there are no lockers we cannot even carry them to and from the venue which is absurd.

It's really irritating, but at the end of the day... I'd rather have the inconvenience than have a bomb going off.

Would the same apply to athletes and their entourages? I doubt it as they will be allowed to bring all sorts of liquids. Also a mobile phone ban is dangerous as I need my mobile for my own safety and security.

GodAtum, not sure where you got your info but, while you are restricted to a small flask, (one is provided with the uniform). there is plenty of drinking water taps, to refill throughout the venues.
Mobile Phones are allowed, the term "electronic transmitting equipment" is to stop full recording of activities , Its true if LOCOG, could have banned mobiles they would, but they came to a sensible conclusion that it is now a fact of life.

I'm not concerned about water, it's my energy drinks that I need to be able to fulfill my duties to a high standard.

With regards to mobile phones I assumed since they transmit electronic signals they would be banned too. Thanks for clearing that up.

Glad to help, but why will you need an energy drink to perform to a high standard? For centuries people did without them, You will not (hopefully) being busy much of the time, and although the manufacturers claim that energy drinks can improve your endurance and performance, many health experts disagree. Any boost you get from drinking them, they say, is solely from the sugar and caffeine.
Of course you may just like the taste, which is fine, so it may be a 'want' rather than a 'need'

I agree, water is fine. You want to provide your body with energy so have a cup of tea or better yet eat high carb food. That's what gives the body energy.

We are allowed phones and they can be on and we can take calls. That's what I was told at training. "There might be an emergency call you need to take so fine".
Obviously that doesn't mean we should all mess about on our phones and not help anyone .

Maybe it might be a good idea if you did go 'Cold Turkey' and see what life is without the crutch of a phone to hold onto :-)

Whenever I don't have a phone I'm forever checking my pockets thinking I have it and then getting disappointed.

My brothers a weirdo on this, he always leaves his phone in his bedroom, and he never takes it with him anywhere unless we remind him. Nutjob is paying a crapload for it.

I don't know what the point of this post was. Good day.

As expected complaints from visitors of inflated prices on food and drink:

I encourage people to complain to LOCOG to try to overturn the ban.

As normal the Daily Mail has not got all the facts , we had a number at the 'test events' this weekend, Some took sandwichs and snacks , no problem, liquids were not allowed but water fountains were supplying water for free! Price are high if bought in the park, (but we gamemakers get fed) but they are just normal London prices .
The ban will not be changed .

I agree with a lot of that, apart from the "normal London prices" bit. Nowhere in London are regular size chocolate bars sold at £1.50 each.

We get a meal voucher so that will only cover lunch or dinner really depending on your shift times. Basically one meal. I guess we will get access to tea/coffee and probably some snacks for free anyway throughout the day although I don't know the likelihood of that. We can always hide stuff in our bags haha.

I'm going to hide some Coke in a plastic water bag on my person so hopefully they wont find it. Not going to pay £5 for a can of it!!
