Can I back date JSA?- Expected to start work 4 weeks ago but nothing yet
Hello readers!
Well, the general jist of things is my last working day was March 20th, in my previous job. I had to leave as I was living in a different city and paying £200 per month to travel there, and so after rent & bills and the fact I was still in my overdraft after being a student, this meant that I was getting no where with stabilising my finances.
I did move 100miles back to Yorkshire to live with my mum until I could get back on track, and one of the first jobs I applied for got back and I went through their process. I applied mid-February, interviewed the week after, and after a frustrating week or so had Apr 3rd as my welcome meeting date.
SO, I was told I'd get my first shift then, but as there was a shortage of uniform it'd actually be a couple of week, and so far I've heard nothing.
If I'd have known that it'd take this long, I'd have gone in to see if I'd be entitled to any help, and well applied for other jobs all this time too!
Is it likely that I'll be entitled to claim anything back for the past 4 weeks (or even the next week, or however long it's going to take) as I've "technically" got a job, but not had any hours whatsoever.
Thanks for any replies/advice, and apologies for the scrambled post- I'm terrible at wording! -
Re: Can I back date JSA?- Expected to start work 4 weeks ago but nothing yet
My reason would be that if this new company hadn't been messing me about, I would have been working from the beginning of April, and so seeing if I could claim wasn't an option as I was told I'd be working within a week or so. If I'd have known that I wouldn't be 4 weeks later I would have enquired, but here I am after a month having earned £0 and selling half my belongings to help my mum with the mortgage and bills..

Re: Can I back date JSA?- Expected to start work 4 weeks ago but nothing yetThanks for your reply! Yeah, I'm not really expecting anything, but our situation's just changed and my step dads left the house/really getting frustrated being messed about with this job.(Original post by gateshipone)
You can ask to have your claim back dated but it's not guaranteed that you will get it.
Also, you have to be actively seeking work while you're claiming JSA, even if you've got a job upcoming.
I did have a job interview on Friday which I was hoping to take up as a second job (that's how much I'm willing to work/need the money) but unfortunately didn't get it. I've been looking for a new job/applying just in case this goes from bad to worse so I guess I'll need to tell them/prove that too?
Thank you! -
