Cabin in the Woods?

Whether you think cinema died with Hitchcock or only got good once Michael Bay started blowing up helicopters, this is the place where moving pictures are discussed.

    Cabin in the Woods?
Without giving to much away, Is The Cabin In The Woods worth seeing?
Will it make you jump? Is it traditional horror? Psychological?
Most Importantly did people enjoy it?

    Definitely worth seeing.
It didn't make me jump but I don't jump so yeah... It did have some jump scenes in though which made my flatmates freak out.
It starts as a traditional horror, but seems to turn into a critique of one.

I loved it, thought it was brilliant. I'd definitely recommend seeing it - even if just for you to make your own opinion on it.

It's not a psychological thriller, its not really a horror, it's out of the slasher movie genre, like Jeepers Creepers or Final Destination attractive young people partying and getting killed one by one in over the top gory and violent ways. However whilst usually there is a dull and simple storyline going on behind the scenes and the main attraction of the film is how sexy the main characters are and how inventive they meet their ends, this one has a bit more of a plot, it's certainly an original plot, and it develops as the story goes, so try not to look online to read up about it because its easy to find spoilers.

I thought it was better than most slashers because usually the main characters are irritating spoilt teenagers, but these characters are quite likeable, three of the five are educated students that take their studies seriously, there's one stereotypical party girl dizzy blonde, and a stoner who is the most perceptive of the lot when it comes to working out what is going on. The guy that plays Thor is in it and the main female character is really pretty in a likeable girl next door way.

I thought it could have been scarier. I found Scream, the only film I can really compare it to, scarier and more "post-modern". But it certainly is good. If you love horror films you'll love this.

I think he means that it starts to examine many of the conventions set down by other prominent horror films in the genre. Like Scream did.

It's "a loving hate letter to the horror genre". It's amazing. I've seen it four times since it opened, read the script ages ago and now own the novelisation and script/behind the scenes books.
Seriously, I waited for three years to see it, signed countless petitions, talked about it obsessively on forums and seeing the first screening on opening day in a packed cinema was wonderful.

I quite enjoyed it. Not usually a fan of horror / thriller.

I thought they mentioned that it was the chemicals they purposely in her hair dye that made her out to be a stereotypical dumb blonde you see in horror films. She's actually quite smart (pre-med student)?

I disliked the film in general but that's just me :dontknow:

    Why were there petitions?

It was supposed to be released in 2009 but the studio that owned it (MGM) went bankrupt and had to sell off all of their films. So it was just sitting in Lionsgate all sad and then they decided to release it and all was good in the world.

You're right (about the spoiler not the dislike), she was pre-med.

I thought it was really good. It's not particularly scary (there's a few jumpy moments but not anything too bad) but it wasn't trying to be. It's got some hilarious parts, and the story's very good.

The easiest way to describe it is a mix of scream and men in black

    I was very disappointed.
As a film, it was very good and I enjoyed it and will possibly watch it again someday.
As a horror film that challenges the genre and has twists you would never expect... It severely lacked for me.
A good tip would be to not watch the trailer and don't go in with any preconceptions, then you'd probably enjoy it as much as it should be enjoyed.

It was bloody awful... So random! I mean, a unicorn starts running around stabbing people and Sigourney Weaver just pops out of no where (not a fan)... Half the time I wasn't sure whether it was supposed to be a comedy or not. I can't believe the ratings it is getting!

Ahh, it was so good! From the trailer, it wasn't something that I particularly wanted to see, but a friend recommended it to me as something which was unexpectedly good, and it really was. Definitely worth seeing.

I didn't really want to see it because it looked like it was such a typical horror film that could have been written by anyone, but the trailer really doesn't do it justice - it's a totally new plot and it's done really well. The characters are really likeable and there are some really really funny moments, without taking away the elements of both horror and terror. Plus, it has Chris Hemsworth in it and I love Thor...

It's a really enjoyable film which is unexpected in many ways, including the ending, which I really liked. Most definitely go and see it

I think the fact that I did this is one of the reason why I enjoyed it so much, tbf

Not quite true. It wasn't supposed to be released until February 2010, then MGM delayed it a year that so they could convert it to 3D. However, they went bust in June 2010. Lionsgate didn't even acquire the distribution rights until July 2011, so they weren't just letting it gather dust for poops and giggles. But hey, if we ignore facts and just sign petitions on the internet everything will be okay!
