I have a conditional offer at Newport for Photography for Fashion and Advertising! It's my first choice and I'm sure I'll get the grades so its pretty likely I'll be there in September 2012.
Is there anyone else on this course? Or anyone who just wants to get to know someone before they go? Message meee

Re: Newport Uni
Opal isn't full, I called the uni today to find out whats going on with accommodation, they're sending the packs out next week and on the pack there is a tick box or something to say if you want to live in Opal or Caerleon, I think the uni has reserved the rooms in Opal so on the website it says they are full.
The Opal halls look amazing! -
Re: Newport UniCongrats, you'll love it. I'll be starting the second year of it in Sept!! It is a really good course, the time table is pretty full but a lot of the lectures are very enjoyable. Student nights are on Wednesdays with normally either a PE or Music lecture 9 or 12 the next day, needless to say the numbers are quite low.(Original post by emilyvhill)
Hey, ive accepted a place at Newport Uni for september to study Primary Education with QTS
If you're on campus then you'll probably be with other first years on your course. This year, Llantarnum and Machen (both en-suite) had mainly QTS students with some Education/ Early Years student. If you are in Llantarnum block then you're a lucky one because these have been done up with AMAZING kitchens (you wouldn't be shown them on the open days). Some QTS students who applied for Standard were given en-suite, I think it's because it's much noisier down there and that doesnt help with the first 5/6 week placement. The placement, I think, is the best experience from the whole year - I learnt much more actually teaching than when I was learning. Although, there is a lot of paperwork for it, stay on top of it otherwise it gets a bit much. Other than that you'll love the course.
And for those staying in Llantarnum block in September, you're very lucky. (Not sure if it says it on the letter, but you'll know what block you're in from the number of your door. So, Llantarnum/ L block, 12th letter of the alphabet so number starts 12__ and then for Machen 13__)
Hope that helps!! -
Re: Newport UniWhat ever you go for you'll love it. Opal is amazing, but then if you're studying on Caerleon campus you have to get the bus (and pay for it...), it's so much easier to leave for a lecture at 8:55 to get to the lecture hall at 9. En-suite in Caerleon is alright, I'm going to be there for a second year in Sept. It doesn't really matter if you are far away from people on your course, it just means you'll make more friends.(Original post by MissBlueskys)
I am now getting confused over which accommodation to go for. Opal is much better quality but more expensive. Caerleon lets me be close to gym/SU etc. but is further away from people on my course
Are you definitely going for Caerleon?
Oh and in Caerleon you can order a takeaway Chinese with delivery of £1. The gym will be £1.5 per session, because we get reduced rates. Taxi into town on student nights, weds, is around £6 for a four seater and on the way back around £8. -
Re: Newport UniSorry to burst your bubble but the bus isn't free anymore. The accommodation packs said that last year, but they just haven't changed them. The bus cost £1.60 for a single and £3 for a day ticket. You can get UniGo bus passes which is something like £6 a week for unlimited travel, but you can get monthly and yearly ones as well.(Original post by Inspirity)

I'm really stuck... can't decide between them! opal seems so much better but being on campus gives easy access to to uni facilities!
Have you started your 2 weeks placement yet? -

Re: Newport Uni
I would of loved to go to Newport university, really impressive place and view from Careleon was amazing, but sadly for me I got a rejection from this university mainly because I was unprepared and the entry requirements seemed to high what I wanted to study "Film and video production".
I might return there to do a Post Graduate one day, I still recommend this uni to anyone wanting to work in film, photography or anything like that. If you're smart enough to get in then treasure it. -
