    Strathclyde or Heriot Watt?
So I have been accepted to both Strathclyde Uni and Heriot-Watt to study Mechanical Engineering.

But I cant decide between the two.

From what I've read Strathclyde seems to be the best, but Heriot-Watt seems to be getting much better recently.

I've also heard that Strathclyde is much more theory based, as opposed to Heriot-Watt which gives you both theory and practical skills.

Does anyone have any advice they can give me to decide between the two?

I think both are similar on over all reputation terms, but strathclyde definitely has a better engineering reputation. I would go as far to say strathclyde is the best engineering uni in scotland, especially for mech eng. Certainly they seem to do very well on the ranking tables.

Visit them both and decide, although you'll probably prefer being in Glasgow to a business park on the outside of Edinburgh.

I have, and I like Heriot-Watt better, but the location of Strathclyde has its appeal.

I would check out the stats on the various independent surveys and ratings organisations (i.e. http://unistats.direct.gov.uk/ & http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/...ng-mechanical-).
I note that HW is higher in both the ones I looked at.

I attended HW for Civil Engineering and I would certainly not describe it as 'a business park'. There is a business park beside the University but this is totally away from the main Campus. The Campus is lovely with lots of history and a beautiful Loch in the middle. As one of the other posters noted - go and visit both and make your own mind up. Got to do what is best for you but the league tables are often a good guide too.
