Re: The Intelligent Dinosaur Theory.I am familiar with the concept of carbon chauvinism, and to me it sounds like a logical fallicy. The fact that other forms of life can not be ruled out is irrelevant; there is no hard evidence to suggest they exist, and all evidence does point to carbon as being the most probably form of life. Likewise all evidence suggests that advanced intelligent evolution is unlikely. Not how I said unlikely. I'm not going out on a limb and saying that it's 100% impossible, I'm just saying that it's very very unlikely, and frankly you haven't presented any evidence to say otherwise.(Original post by Barden)
Humans are in existence due to the precise conditions present on Earth, yes. This does not mean that intelligent life, of some other form, could not have arisen under different conditions.
The idea that life must only exist on Earth-like planets is rather short-sighted. Are you familiar with the concept of carbon chauvinism?
Like I said before... life as we know it on Earth is simply not enough evidence to make any assumptions about life elsewhere in the universe.
Your arrogance is only setting you up for a bigger fall...(Original post by Barden)

Okay... how about the whole universe out there which we know next to nothing about?
Lol okay... you just carry on arguing about evolution with zoologists (Y)Your arrogance is only setting you up for a bigger fall...
I'm sure it won't be you who falls

Re: The Intelligent Dinosaur Theory. That isn't an evidence of proof to anything. That's another logical fallicy. You might as well say 'you can't say that flying chimpanzee leprechauns who feed on unicorns don't exist, because there's a whole universe out there in which they might.'(Original post by Barden)
Evidence?

Again, the fact that you're supposedly a zoologist doesn't change the fact that your argument is a load of garbarge. You remind me of a guy on TSR a while back who claimed he had a maths degree and was trying to argue that median wasn't a form of average.(Original post by Barden)

Re: The Intelligent Dinosaur Theory.Well, I've got a PhD in English from Oxbridge...
A full stop would be out of place, making the sentences seem distant but they are linked how you said, one's a statement, the other is a reason for that, so a semi-colon would link the two sentences replacing a conjugation, whereas for a colon to be used correctly the first sentence would need to build up like an introduction to the reason like "There's a reason I'm not worried: I can spell."
It's possible I'm wildly wrong though, that's just how I've always understood the colon and semi-colon.Last edited by Hype en Ecosse; 24-04-2012 at 22:04. -

Re: The Intelligent Dinosaur Theory. As I said before, I don't know you personally, and you don't know me personally. Hypothetically speaking, you could just be keeping up the facade to save face. On the other hand you may well be an honest stand up bloke who is so sound that I'd want you to be the godfather to my son, but I don't know either way.(Original post by Barden)
