WHY are they in IMDb Top 50?
Whether you think cinema died with Hitchcock or only got good once Michael Bay started blowing up helicopters, this is the place where moving pictures are discussed.

WHY are they in IMDb Top 50?
I'll take it that all the film lovers on TSR know about IMDb Top 250.
Which films do you think don't deserve to be in Top 50?
That includes any that you think were good but not good enough or the ones that you just didn't get and everyone you spoke to had the same opinion about them.
Paths of Glory
The Shining
Spirited Away
Taxi Driver
American Beauty
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Apocalypse Now
North By Northwest
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
Leon
Se7en
Fight Club
Rear Window
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
I LOVE all the other ones. -
Re: WHY are they in IMDb Top 50?
I don't think that Return of the King should be higher than Fellowship/Two Towers.
Toy Story 3 was alright, but I wouldn't consider it one of the best films ever made.
Aside from those two, nothing really sticks out, although I haven't seen the majority of the ones listed! -
Re: WHY are they in IMDb Top 50?Like I said, good film, but 12th best ever? No way in hell.(Original post by metalthrashin'mad)
All this dissent towards Fight Club? WTH! -
Re: WHY are they in IMDb Top 50?Am I reading your post wrong, or did you suggest that these masterpieces don't deserve a place in the imdb top 50? I'm struck dumb at the notion that anyone could even begin to build an argument that so much as a single one of of them doesn't belong.(Original post by mali167)

I found this kind of quirky and cute, but not really top 50 material I'll concede. I watched a dub though, and apparently the sub is much better.(Original post by mali167)
Spirited Away
All cult classics; I loved them all, and they'd definitely be in my top 50. Terminator 2 in particular is iconic, I'd argue that any of its flaws can be overlooked.
These are both great films, but I can appreciate that a younger audience might find their age off putting. Try them again when you're 25; I really enjoyed both of them

Re: WHY are they in IMDb Top 50?Why? Because it's in a different language?(Original post by gtfo)

Episode V is easily the best of the series. -
Re: WHY are they in IMDb Top 50?
I don't understand why so many of Christopher Nolan's films are so high on the list. In fact, aren't all of his films in the top 250?
At the risk of getting negged for this (I'm going to, aren't I?) I don't think they're as brilliant as other films on the list. They're very good films, but honestly, the only one of his that I think should be there is Memento

Episode V is easily the best of the series.
Seconded that Episode V is the best of the series. -

Spirited Away
American Beauty
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Fight Club
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
I haven't seen the rest but those are all amazing. gtfo Spirited away dub vs sub depends on preference, I much prefer to dubbed version myself. Miyazaki films are unique in that regard, the English voice work is always very very very good.
In my opinion most films made before 1990 should be taken out of there though, so perhaps some would call me a philistine. In most cases I simply can't watch old films because they bore me to death. Of course there are some exceptions, Star Wars being one of them.Last edited by Ewan; 23-04-2012 at 14:39. -
