Greenwich University Youth & Community Work
    Hello!

Is there anyone else on here who has applied to do Youth & Community this year (2012/13)? I can't find anything on here that mentions it, so I thought I'd start a thread and hope somebody sees it...

    Hey!
I honestly thought the same! Could barely find anyone doing this course..

Well, i've applied to do Sport Studies at Newman University and received an offer..

But lately, i've been thinking of doing a combined honours

So i'm thinking about changing it to

Sport Studies with Youth + community work

    or

Sport studies with "Working with Children, Young People and Families"

    or

Sport Studies with education studies lol

All i know is that i love working with children and i want to become a PE teacher!!

Anyways, what do you know about youth and com work?
I only recently started to do some research on it..

    Is it exam based?

Somebody else who knows the course! Yay!

I think a lot of the youth and community marks come from the work placements. You do a different one each year and somebody monitors your progress and writes reports. I'm not sure about exams, none are mentioned in the course description so I'm hoping there won't be any! It sounds like an interesting course and it gives you a professional qualification at the end as well as a degree, which I'm REALLY hoping will get me a job. Fingers crossed...

Does Newman offer the combined degree you want to do? Doing a combined honours sounds like a good plan. It makes sense if you want to teach children

    Hi!

Phew, I'm so glad there are other people out there discussing this course! I've applied to the Ruskin College in Oxford to study for a BA in Youth and Community Work.

I have a day long interview on Monday (17th Sept) at the college....which frankly, I'm a bit terrified about. Never having been to uni before or attended a day long assessment, I have no clue what to expect from 10 hours of grilling!

Sounds like an incredible course though....work placements should be really good!

Best of luck to you guys, I hope you get everything you hope for from the study
