I am sick sick sick of 'real women' and one body type being held up as better than the other. It seems to change all the time, one minute it's all about being skinny and the next it's all about big boobs and small waists. What happened to just recognising people as beautiful individually?

I don't really think many people see Christina Hendricks as a role model. She merely represents the ideal figure - a small waist and a big chest. I think most women accept they will never look like her and most men know that most women don't look like that. I think a lot of it though comes down to the clothes that she wears - she always wears things that accentuate her boobs. I'm not going to lie though, I think its better that people aspire to look like her and not someone who has has a large amount of surgery/ gone on an extreme diet.

So, I wasn't sure who Christina Hendricks was, googled her and the thing that came up after her name was 'measurements' .

People she's definitely not overweight, so I'm not too sure where that argument came from. She's got big boobs and the dresses she wears accentuate her breasts so they're essentially spilling over her dress.

I personally don't think she's a role model (mainly because I've never heard of her) but she's another media pin-up to flash to the world, make women want her figure and men lust after her.

They are natural. She's clearly put on a fair amount of weight since that Playboy shoot and a lot of that weight has obviously gone to her boobs. You can TELL they're not fake.

I fail to see how saying 'big boobs is attractive!' or 'you have to have big breasts to be a real woman because then men will really want you!' is being a role model. She is beautiful, and I love Joan Holloway and I don't think Hendricks even wants this patronising pedestal people put her on.

The deal is, people are still obsessing over the 'right' body shape, still obsessing over weight and appearance and the right way to be attractive. Still forcing people to be a certain way. We haven't moved on at all. Hell we're even regressing back to the days were women wore corsets and we're just figures to look at.

I wasn't referring to skinny women in general, I was referring to the ones we see in the media who all seem to be unnaturally and unhealthily thin with no shape. Someone who is naturally thin and healthy is fine, usually they do have some sort of shape. But surely its better even for the naturally skinny people to look up to a slim but healthy woman like Christina Hendricks regardless of the size of her boobs than most of the women we see in the public eye today who look like they haven't eaten in 3 months.

Sorry to burst the bubble of this thread but from an evolutionary standpoint there is a 'preferable' type of woman, just as there are archetype guys who will generally have more success in attracting women, than their male peers. The media can influence people's perceptions of attractiveness (size zero was never seen as attractive by most men imo; it was always women putting pressure on other women) but generally things haven't changed too much. Most guys will prefer big boobs and a small waist to thinner girls simply based on evolutionary psychology.
Just as most girls prefer qualities like height, build, intelligence and assertiveness.

How often do you hear the 5'6 skinny dude cry about how he feels it's unfair that certain men are objectified as an ideal (a look at any women's magazine or men's health cover will tell you this is true). Rarely. He just gets the **** on with it. When women talk about ideal guys like Brad Pitt, etc, no one bats an eye lid, but when the attention turns on to the ideal woman suddenly its objectification and its grossly unfair. Double standards much?

Because, like you say, she has a natural body that manages to be both slender and full-figured. She isn't unhealthily skinny, promoting a severely twisted body image, as many size 0 models are, nor is she promoting cosmetic surgery.

The fact is, she is genetically blessed. You're right to say that many women couldn't naturally have that bust-to-waist ratio, but she's being championed as someone genetically blessed with a healthy physique. No, for the majority of women, her physique is not achievable. They're not supposed to be telling you to become Christina Hendricks though, it's simply promoting a more natural, busty yet slim, figure.
