    Hi,

    Thanks for the question

To be eligible for the tuition fee prize you would need to be eligible for UK/EU fee status from your student finance application. However, you are still welcome to enter the competition to win the itunes vouchers as an international fee paying student.
    Submitted

    Fingers crossed xD

It would have to be an ipad app to be able to read your course texts as an ibook or on the ipad and being able to opt out of having the printed materials mailed out. This would save loads of money, be more environmentally friendly and maybe the course providers could charge less for someone willing to have their materials in this way. Please enter me for the comp!

My app would be the pint glass is half full. Measures how lucky you are on specific days, is it related to karma. It would help you to be more positive about outcomes.

I'm days away from my current degree ending, and there's few things less appealing than studying again. Ever.

    But I entered it anyway

Can I have the money that it would cost for a degree there instead?

I wish you didn't have the restriction on selecting your modules no later than 06 September. I would really really want to win this but I don't want to enrol at the OU until after 2016 (I'll be doing a phd next year instead).

No, sorry! As we say in the terms and conditions in the first post there is no cash alternative available and the prize is non-transferable so can only be taken by the winner.

Unfortunately, as with any competition we need to have a cut off date. Even if we were to say you could redeem the prize for 4 years until 2016 then there would be more disappointed people who wanted to start in 2017 - we can't please everyone! The fact that the winner can start studying any time between September 2012 and September 2013 means it is already an incredibly flexible prize that a lot of students are eligible to win.

Also, remember that there are iTunes vouchers up for grabs in addition to the degree prize!

So I give you an app idea that could potentially make you millions and I get a degree worth £15k. Hmmm...

    Hi,

I've just checked that out for you and no, there isn't a confirmation email so don't worry if you haven't received anything back from us about your entry.

So there's no point entering if you're already a student in a three year course, because you can't use the top prize? :/

I entered my app idea, it's called Help Me OU-Wan Kinobi and it turns the open university man into Princess Leah. It's for emergencies when you're feeling stressed. Here's a demo:Click image for larger version.

    This isn't the case, no.

The prize is also for postgraduate courses so if you will graduate in either 2012 or 2013 then you would be eligible to win the prize and study at postgraduate level. For a typical 3 year undergraduate degree course this means that anyone currently in their 2nd or 3rd year would be able to win. If you will not be finishing your undergraduate course in either 2012 or summer 2013 then you would be eligible to use the prize if you transferred your degree studies to the Open University and finished studying with us.

As I've said before though, remember that in addition to the top prize there's also lots of iTunes vouchers to be won!

Yes, we've had a lot of entries so far - there's loads of ideas from serious, academic ones to those which fit into the social, relaxing side of being a student then everything else in between!

Entered for the posterity (+runners up). The 150/50 word limit didn't really help me at all since I can't qualify my reasoning without underemphasising other reasons or demonstrate precise analysis from other similar apps.

I don't know how passionate/focused the rest of the applicants are on their respective appls. or how they effectively they used their word limits but I seriously found it difficult to efficiently specify objectives/aims and make my idea sound serious.

Although it wouldn't count if everyone else is on the same lines as me lol!

    Good Luck all!

So, if we're not citizens of the UK or EU (I'm US/Russia), we are not eligible for the top prize. Or do we just get a lump sum?

Also, didn't see anything about age. We stay eligible to use the money for what period of time?

    Is this contest repeated yearly?

Sounds very interesting!! There needs to be a word limit as otherwise some people would write absolutely loads and we're just after the basic idea rather than expecting the entrant to have considered technical aspects and/or thought about the realities of their idea in loads of detail.

That's correct - you have to be eligible for home tuition fee status to win the tuition fee prize. There is no money alternative available, no.

Also, didn't see anything about age. We stay eligible to use the money for what period of time?
As mentioned in the terms and conditions the winning student must confirm their chosen modules at the Open University by 6th September 2013. However, the degree study must be completed within 9 years of 1st October 2012 which gives the winner until 1st October 2021.

    Is this contest repeated yearly?
This is the first time we have offered a tuition fee prize on The Student Room. I don't know what will happen in the future.
