Re: TSR Dance Society!
My tap shoes after 10years have finally died . . .got a new pair and they are not a patch on my old deceased pair
. I hate breaking in new tap shoes . . they are slightly on the tightish side but tap shoes 'give' after a while - so don't know if I should just keep the new one's I got and break them in or send them back and get the half size up? . . .

Re: TSR Dance Society!
Hi guys! I am new to studentroom so you have to be patient with my silly questions.
I am 24 years old male contemporary dancer from Bulgaria who decided to go for a professional training in UK. The places I found were Northern School of Contemporary Dance, London School of Contemporary Dance and Laban. I've been training contempoprary for an year but I have been doing karate for 6. So would you help me with choosing the best place for my training? I want to learn contemporary and get BA(hons) degree. I am afaird that I have never done ballet...If you share your info about the best dance places for contemporary in UK I would be grateful. -

In answer to your question, it really depends whether you want to attend an actual dance school or whether you'd be happy getting your degree at a standard University. Both Brighton Uni and Newcastle College offer BA's in contemporary dance - you will be required to audition to study there.
If you have only been studying contemporary dance for a year, it might be worthwhile waiting until you are ready to put yourself into some graded examinations. Many dance schools will only accept people who have reached a certain grade in their chosen field of dance. Lots of dance schools offer these examinations, for example, RAD (Royal Academy of Dance).
The Northern School of Contemporary Dance is also a good choice. They will offer you a BPA in contemporary dance if your audition is successful. Bear in mind that this degree, like any other, will also include contextual and theoretical study - it won't just be all dance, you may have to write essays/sit exams etc.
Finally, as I said keep practicing dance, perfect your technique and keep looking around for dance schools.
The audition is probably the most important thing so make sure you can dance to a high standard before you apply. Good luck!!

Re: TSR Dance Society!
Thank you so much for the info! I will take a look at Brighton Uni and Newcastle College. Do you have any impressions for Guildford Uni cause I know that there is also contemporary dance?
I personally prefer to go directly to a dance school like NSCD or LSCD cause I feel that the training process there is more intense and rigorous which I like
but I am afraid the standard for accepting people is very high.
The problem is that in Bulgaria where I live we have only ballet academy. We don't have even a private dance school which will give you some degree in other dance styles. That's is why I would like to start my professional training and career as a dancer in England.
Do you know if you fail on the first audition would it be possible to go back on the second or I'll have to wait another year? -

Hello guys, being an Entertainment mod and now a social group mod, just checking that you're all sorted/happy in here for your group leader and deputy leaders? Any of the leaders now confused as to how to manage the group? If the leader/a deputy could quote or PM me, that'd be great. If people think there aren't any leaders that are still active and are desperate to lead the soc, please quote me too. Thanks.

Re: TSR Dance Society!I'd like to not be leader now as I'm very rarely active. The new way of managing has made it easier because things now pop up in my sidebar, but I'd rather let someone else take over who uses the forum more.(Original post by Champagne Supernova)

Re: TSR Dance Society!Hmm, the deputy is inactive now. Is there anyone who would like to be leader now? (if you're new to leading groups then take a look at the FAQ first(Original post by Zebrastripes)

Re: TSR Dance Society!my toes have bled before but ive never had blisters, do your pointe shoes fit properly?? Otherwise I guess you could use two toe pads if they fit lol or tape your foot up first(Original post by ktlaurenroe)
just reviving this thread in case there's anyone about who does pointe...
Any methods or tips or anything to stop getting blisters? I started en pointe like over a year ago now and still have blisters in the same places on my toes, obviously they get better and worse periodically but it's painful stuff.
I wouldn't mind, they're bearable generally but it's just when I'm dancing that they start to really hurt again. Sometimes I'm okay, sometimes after like 20 minutes en pointe it's just like the worst stinging pain ever and I can't do anymore cause they've all ripped open again and started bleeding and stuff, it's really annoying. I have wool toe pads but nothing else :/ anyone have any ideas what I could do?

they were new shoes so it was kind of understandable that they'd be painful at first but thanks anyway.

Re: TSR Dance Society!
Hi! I'm Becca and I've danced all my life!
My favourite style is ballet (RAD Advanced II), but I also do Contemporary and Jazz!
@ktlaurenroe - This sounds weird but I wipe surgical spirit over my feet where my point shoes used to blister, it toughens the skin and does actually prevent horrible blisters!

Re: TSR Dance Society!I love ballet too!! ive had to stop lessons whilst doing a levels but I hope to start back again in the future. I used to do ballet, jazz, theatre craft and tap(Original post by Bizzya)
