Re: Stan Collymore's team to face France at Euro 2012I remember seeing Holt in League 2 for Rochdale looked a class player then. I think you have to take a target and its very close between Holt and Danny Graham to go for me.(Original post by barnetbuzzzz)
All the people attacking Holt... have you actually seen him play this season? He's actually pretty skilled with the ball at his feet, as well as bring a good finisher and providing a physical presence. -
Re: Stan Collymore's team to face France at Euro 2012I meant he was a frustrated winger in the sense that he is good going forward but as a right back he is pretty average. Gets the basics wrong far too often.(Original post by Jim-Jam)
Johnson clearly isn't when he was part of the second best defensive lineup in the league before things went pear shaped for Liverpool. He's played under Mourinho, Benitez, Hodgson, Dalglish, Redknapp, Capello etc etc... All of whom he's played primarily RB under, yes? So clearly, he's not a Right winger? -

Re: Stan Collymore's team to face France at Euro 2012looooooool best post I've seen on this board so far.. ****ing LOL(Original post by Vintage)
If you go with Holt you may aswell bring Shola Ameobi to the Euro's too. -
Re: Stan Collymore's team to face France at Euro 2012I disagree. The European Cup is here and now. Winning it is prestigious. The World Cup is in the future. Play your best players NOW regardless of age. That's my belief. You can't keep talking about the future, else you win nothing. Today is the future.(Original post by jinx!)
In my opinion the Euro's would be best used to bring up younger players into the senior England team. This way we can have a solid national team in two years time for the World Cup. This was the strategy that the German National Team used in the last Euro's and look how well that worked out for them in the WC.
I'd drop Cole and Gerrard from the line-up. They're top players but I think their age rules him out. It could be nice to see Phil Jones? Josh McEachran? Kelly? Jack Rodwell? Ryan Bertrand? Welbeck? -
Re: Stan Collymore's team to face France at Euro 2012
I think the majority of people on here criticising Holt either haven't seen him play, know little about football, or suffer from 'big clubs only' syndrome. He can finish with both feet, is a brilliant header of the ball, is a lot more skilful than many realise, can hold up the ball well, and his desire is second to none. England teams should not be picked on the club side someone plays for, or their roots, but on form. Would Holt be going if he had scored 13 league goals for Man United or Arsenal this season? It seems very likely. And for those saying he isn't good enough to play for England, where he will face top international defenders- this season he has scored against the likes of Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton... each of whom include English, and Worldwide internationals. With supporting players who are supposedly 'better' than his teammates at Norwich, he deserves his chance more than the likes of Welbeck and Sturridge who are, unfortunately, more likely to be on the plane. Feel free to disagree but I think there is a lot of ignorance when it comes to Holt, he is far more than a big target man who has had a sensational season.
rant over, my team to face France would be:
Hart
Richards Terry Cahill Cole
Parker Cleverly
A.Johnson Gerrard Young
Holt. -
