Durham vs. NottinghamI posted something similar to this before, but I still cannot decided, so I was hoping for some further input?
Durham:
3-year LLB
Pro's:
Greater course selection
Like the idea of doing the 3rd year dissertation
Like the collegiate system
LOVE the historic parts of the campus
'Quintessential English University' (I'm from the US)
Brand new law school/law building
Con's:
More courses per year (6 courses per year)
1 year longer (1 more year of tuition)
Campus isn't as beautiful overall (i.e. not as much green space; not a self-contained campus, etc)
Nottingham:
2-year Senior Status LLB
Pro's:
Less classes per year (5 courses per year)
1 less year (meaning 1 year less of tuition)
Beautiful campus!!!!! I absolutely LOVE the Nottingham campus!
Con's:
No option to do a dissertation
Less course selection
Not as 'traditional', which isn't really a problem.
I can afford the additional year of tuition at Durham, so that's not really a problem -- but I don't want to spend unnecessary money.
Also, is the Senior Status LLB viewed as equal to the regular 3-year LLB?
Thoughts? Opinions? Which would you go to and why?
Thanks!

Re: Durham vs. NottinghamIt's really very subjective. Personally I'd pick Durham because I like a quieter life and the collegiate system.(Original post by NYU2012)

But there's definitely something to be said for shaving a year off the degree. By the time you've taken your first degree, your LLB and your LPC/BPTC you'll be old and grey... -

Re: Durham vs. NottinghamIf I did a 3-year LLB and then LPC, I would be... 24 when I finished. I wouldn't consider that old and grey(Original post by michael321)

Or, of course, 23 if I did the 2-year SS at Notts. -

Re: Durham vs. NottinghamThe joys of being an Oxbridge reject!(Original post by Tsunami2011)
I would prefer Nottingham, because for me Durham personally would be a constant reminder of what I could have had.
lol
Is there any other reason you would choose Nottingham over Durham? -
Re: Durham vs. NottinghamI would still be an oxbridge reject at Nottingham, I just wouldn't be subjected to a watered down version of the Oxbridge system and those with a chip on their shoulder.(Original post by NYU2012)

If you're interested in nightlife/partying Nottingham is far better. Durham is also very north of England, but you're an international, so it probably wouldn't affect you, but its about 7hrs away from me. Just go with your gut instinct, since both are good enough to get you into the magic circle if that what you're after.
Apart from that, I wouldn't really have much preference. -
Re: Durham vs. NottinghamI guess it's a personal choice; all I'm saying is that if I'd already done one degree, and had the prospect of a vocational training course after the second one, I would be getting a bit bored of education and wanting to get a move on in life.(Original post by NYU2012)

That said, if I had to choose for a first degree, I would go for Durham.
Basically I'm being totally useless by giving you two opposing opinions in the same post... -

Re: Durham vs. NottinghamI actually want to eventually go back for at least a PhD, if not a masters or even two PhDs. I have no problems being an academic(Original post by michael321)

What about make you choose Durham? -
Re: Durham vs. NottinghamDurham is a smaller, quieter, more compact and more student-dominated town, which I personally prefer. I live in Nottingham and there are an awful lot of chavs kicking about if you ever go clubbing.(Original post by NYU2012)

Durham also has a collegiate system, which, though it is not as developed as Oxbridge's, is still a nice way of running things.
Durham's also a much more historic town, which appeals to me though it's a personal thing once again. -
Re: Durham vs. Nottingham
theres really not much between both schools. theres not much between the law dpts of notts, durham, bristol and warwick in particular. you should just go with your gut feel with this one, since that extra year isnt much of a consideration, in you case.
if ur concerned about the overall rep of the university, if u think u might not necessarily practice in future, IMO durham uni has a TAD more prominence in the west, or respectability, being slightly oldboyish, and old. In asia however, notts seems to have an upperhand with employers.
