Im a terrible nail biter, and I find that painting your nails in a colour you love to be really helpful - my nails even grew!

I always used to bite my nails, didn't think I'd ever be able to stop. However, since I got braces 2 and a half years ago I haven't been able to bite them once! So if you're up for getting braces, seems to be the most effective way of stopping!

My mum always used to tell me that putting pepper/garlic under your nails works. But like I'd ever do that :P

I've worn fake nails loads and I bite them off too. I bite off that stuff that reckons to be horrible because I'm so used to it. I need nice nails for college and want my nails nice for prom which is in June. How can I stop biting straight away? Its so hard for me
It's very simple actually...just don't put them in your mouth

I used to be the same. For some reason the only thing that worked for me was to make is into a competition.
Me and another girl who bit her nails had a bet to see who would grow their nails/go without biting them the longest. It sounds stupid, but it's the only thing that actually worked for me...
This is exactly how i stopped.

OP, I've bitten my nails all my life and so has my mum. So when i went away for uni we made a competition who'd have the nicest nails when you get back. It's a really incentive! i've tried everything in the past such as the nasty tasting nail varnish etc. but only this worked.

I do however fid my self nibbling when something stressful happens but i just make sure i have a nail file handy to avoid having those snags that are irresistible to rip off.

I was the worst of the worst with nail biting as i used to take the nail off PAST the nail bed at times.

It's not that simple when I've been a nail biter for 10 years. I do it without realising

Ask someone to kick you in the shins whenever you bite your nails in company.

If you're by yourself then willpower's the only way to do it I'm afraid. I should probably get round to it at some point. The only time I do it now is when I'm monging something rotten, and I bite my nails without realising I'm doing it

Just don't bite any other human parts that go in your mouth...it could be very painful for him. Think of that when you put your fingers in your mouth, might help!

Wear gloves if you are at home with no one around, if you are out just chew gum. I am in the process of attempting to quit too and those things are helping me a lot.

Don't use toilet paper. You'll have stopped nail biting in 24 hours - guaranteed.

Re: How to stop biting nails?
I had a really bad habit of my biing my nails too, but I'd bite them in a way where my nails would still look curved or straight, rather than my friends who's actually look painful, and bites really deep, that the nails pracically non existent
Anyways, this is what helped me, I know its gross, but it works. Each time you're about to enter your finger into your mouth, think of the fact, you wash your bottom with that hand lol

Re: How to stop biting nails?
I bit my nails for about 17 years lol. I decided I wanted to stop and so I just painted them a bright colour, coz they looked different the appeal wasn't there.. I think it's coz I couldn't properly assess which nail was the best to bite (LOL). Then, when they've grown a bit, just shape them.. I was proud that I had nails and haven't bitten them since.
Although I have realised that I 'pretend' to bite my nails i.e. I bite them but don't rip them off? Awkward.
