Re: Sociology (+any other subject) at Sheffield 2012 Firmers/Insurershaha I was having a really dull day of revision and ended up on here! I love it I've had such an amazing year there's about 100 straight sociology but then loads do combined with business and social policy so it really depends. Are you just doing straight sociology?(Original post by RMW1994)

Lol ah same,i always get distracted and end up on here, not great considering how much i wanna go sheffield! Ah 100 people seems quite alot actually, yeah im doing straight sociology, well i originally applied to do english language and sociology but they only offered me sociology cause i was predicted BBB and not ABB
but i'm still excited cause i love sociology so i'm not too bothered. Whats the girl to guy ratio?? Cause sociology strikes me as like a girly subject but i think i learn better in a mixed environment tbh. Whats your workload and timetable like btw? Sorry if i eventually drive you crazy with all the questions btw,tad too curious and a tad too excited lol x

Re: Sociology (+any other subject) at Sheffield 2012 Firmers/Insurershahaha I used to do the exact same! it is but lectures are about 100 or 200 (depending how many bother to get out of bed) but its OK because you're just talked at in 1st year and then you have seminars which are about 12 so they are much more intimate. I applied for the exact same! but managed to mess up my exams so they transferred me to straight sociology. There are alot of girls but also a surprising amount of boys. I feel I do too but in lectures it doesn't matter so much and seminars I have always found to be quite mixed in one of mine there are more boys than girls. The workload isn't too bad some subjects spend alot of time in uni whereas sociology you have less hours but expected to do more out of uni - but you certainly get loads of social time! haha don't worry I was exactly the same!(Original post by RMW1994)

Re: Sociology (+any other subject) at Sheffield 2012 Firmers/InsurersAh well the seminar thing sounds good! I did wonder though people say that cause sheffield is a russell group.lecturers are more concerned with their own research instead of teaching or something but that sounds like over-exaggerate bull tbh,or is it true? Which accomodation are you in btw and whats that like??x(Original post by SEdwards2)

Re: Sociology (+any other subject) at Sheffield 2012 Firmers/Insurers
In my experience they haven't been if nothing else it helps because they really know what they are talking about. we had a module which was based upon the work the lecture had done so he really knew what he was talking about. you get a personal tutor who you can ask about anything but everyone is so so friendly. I'm in endcliffe its so nice have you applied for accommodation and stuff?

Re: Sociology (+any other subject) at Sheffield 2012 Firmers/Insurers
Good choice endcliffe is so much better and 90% of the rooms are en suite. yeah there are quite alot of single sex flats which i was surprised about but its quite nice having a big group of girls to live with. there is but other than in freshers we never go to events in endcliffe we just go out of to the main student union instead but people in ranmoor are always complaining how quiet and small it is, although some people really enjoy it, accommodation is really just luck.
