Grey CollegeI recently (as of today) received a notification letting me know that I was allocated to Grey college. I had originally applied to Castle and was hoping for, at least, a bailey college.
So, I was hoping that some of you could tell me about Grey college - what's good about it? Do you enjoy it? How's the location? The people? etc. etc. etc.
Thanks

Re: Grey College
It's awesome. Fairly good mix of people. We don't have a reputation for being full of posh public school boys. The location is great if you do sciences as it's the closest to the science site and the library. For most humanities, the lecture theatres are only about 10-15 minutes away walking.
I'd applied to Castle originally as well, but I'm so glad I got given Grey. It's not that bad being off the Bailey. It's quite nice being slightly out of town as you don't have to put up with the hassle of tourists everywhere or the general hustle & bustle of the town centre.
Ultimately you'll enjoy yourself whatever college or whatever university you're at, 99.9% of the time. Grey also has a really well run Welfare set-up for when things aren't going well, and many of the other colleges come to Grey for advice on Welfare issues.
If you've got any more questions I'm happy to help. -

How's the Grey 'campus'? Are the buildings nice? The facilities (housing, study areas, etc.)?
Do you ever go to the bailey? In all honesty, one of the things that really attracted me to Durham was the history and wonderful architecture of the Castle and Cathedral (it's very similar to the Ivies, in that sense); which is why I applied to Castle. -
Re: Grey College
Grey was built in the 60s I think. It's not old and historical like the Bailey ones, but it does mean things are abit cleaner, more modern & spacious. That said, we do like to keep some of the traditional side of things, so we do have formals in gowns a few times a term.
We've just had our JCR & library refurbished so they're pretty nice. The accomodation is fairly standard. 3 of the 4 buildings have been nicely redone in recent years; one is still abit iffy on the eyes and nose, but it's also the most fun block in college as its entirely freshers.
