Messed up the very last bit of multivariables, got 1 and -1.2 instead of 1 and -1.8, as I decided that (-2+8)/10 = 6/5 Also, no discussion of Groups on here yet?? By far the easiest question on the paper, they were throwing the marks at us!

    Same offer? Gap year maybe
Looks like it for me, mate!
Feel so deflated! Gotta perk myself up for STEP I and FP2 next week though, I guess.

Oh yeah Markov Chains one, the question used steps rather than days (so the first step is actually the next time instance) or something like past papers therefore, for 10 steps or whatever, you don't actually take the power to the 9 but rather you just take to the power of 10 right?
This had me worried for a second that I'd done the whole Markov question wrong...I presume that you did, for example, P^10 x (1,0,0,0,0)? Whereas I did (for some reason) P^9 x (0,1,0,0,0) which I'm fairly sure is the same thing in this question?

Also, I think the values of k on mvc were -1.8 and 1, having tried them on Wolfram Alpha.

Sorry those links don't work...if you want to check just type in:

    tangent plane to g = x^2 +2y^2 - z^2 + 2xz + 2 yz + 4z - 3 at ( -1.6, -0.8, 0.6)

    and

    tangent plane to g = x^2 +2y^2 - z^2 + 2xz + 2 yz + 4z - 3 at ( 0, 0, 1)

I thought the multivariable calculus was a bit of a chore the differential geometry was easy and the vectors were pretty simple! Just as I had the time I looked at the other two questions and doodled They didn't seem so bad. I am a bit tired now though. It should not be at the same time as C4.

Just to confirm, the grade boundaries are the same always regardless of which questions you did? Just asking because for Physics (AQA) the grade boundaries change depending on what optional topic you choose...

I loved the groups question, took me about 20 mins  , certainly liked the final 8 marks, just listing all the subgroups and stating each element's order, piece of cake

The awkward moment when realise you got the wrong answer for the partial derivative with respect to z, and therefore can't have got many marks on that question. (In addition to getting almost zero on differential geometry.)

What did you get for the c times mod h one?

That was the one part of the question that I couldn't really do

Oh its just that I compared it with someone a few posts back so it should verify the partial derivatives so if you got the same then it'd be fine.

Doesn't matter, this doesn't affect your offer :P

I did Vectors, Groups and Markov Chains, the only ones I'd been taught but they were all fairly straightforward.

    For vectors I agree with tigers1's answers: 180, 124.8, p=26 and Q=(390(ish),290,-30).

Groups seemed fairly straightforward but a bit tedious showing how ab=c and ba=c and all those different combinations. For the last part where you had to list the groups I put the identity, 4 or 5 subgroups of order 2 and 3 subgroups of order 4 (Some of these were hidden).

Markov Chains was likewise fine, assuming no calculator mistakes then that's looking good. For the last part a few others at my school struggled with it but I think I got 1.5 (using 0.6/(1-0.6)) and then 4 ( by doubling it as D to E and then back to D takes 2 minutes/steps and then adding 1 for the time taken to then go left from D to C.

So, overall the exam went really well which is good because I need an A* in further maths.

Yes! Glad that you followed the exact reasoning as I for the last part of Markov Chains. I was not completely certain about getting 4

well you're just hilarious aren't you? grow up a bit, anyone can make a little arithmetical error.
