Re: Runescape
I didn't play Runescape particularly much, spent around 26 days total, but I recently got back into it, just for some laughs and to complete some of the questlines (which are more epic and fun than quests in most other MMO's).
I've spent a lot of time in MMO's, around 140 days total over around 8 years, but I've never felt like it has impacted my life negatively. My grades weren't affected, nor my social life - I simply played MMO's as my recreation, I didn't watch TV or play any other games.
I played Runescape the way I wanted to, zero grinding for the 99 skillcapes and crap like that, just focused on trading, making gold and doing quests. And I found it pretty fun, and still do! I think my strength was realising how pointless getting 99 skill levels was, so I didn't get that feeling of 'wasted youth' like you tools have
Though I've got into more competitive games now, especially LoL.Last edited by Architecture-er; 06-05-2012 at 12:31. -
Re: Runescape
My account had 271 days played before i quit, about 60% of that was played by me :/
I quit in march 2011, seems much longer than a year ago... But anyway, my reason for quitting was, I fell into a day-dream whilst following somebody into the wilderness carrying my red partyhat, red h'ween mask and 60m worth of other stuff, stacking up to a nice hefty loss of 1.6 billion.
At least it made me quit...

Re: Runescape
Man, reading all this sort of makes me want to play it again :').
Played it for 6 years, on and off for the last 2. Really enjoyed learning about the RS world and getting better at the game, met some awesome people on their. If I had nothing else to do, I'd probably go back but I don't want it to affect my exams or social life etc. I literally had no social life back then, I didn't actually want one, RS was better back then. -
Re: Runescape
That game was pretty much all I played during my early teens. Some notable memories:
- 6/6/6 durial massacre
- castle wars (****ing loved that game)
- hours spent just clicking on a piece of rock or a tree to level up my mining and treecutting
- Ape Atoll, anyone else remembers this quest?
- Clan wars in the old wildy
- ''Z0mg Abby whip for sale 2mil each!!!!!!!!!''
- getting banned from the forums
- house parties
- Having a **** fit in real life when I got PK'ed in the wildy and lost about 300k worth of stuff
ahh, those memories
edit: just remembered, 'ape atoll' was the name of an island, and not the actual name of the quest, but anyway I remember doing an epic quest in that placeLast edited by internet tough guy; 06-05-2012 at 13:22. -
Re: Runescape
Yeah I got pretty addicted to it. I never really let it fully ruin my early secondary school years (7&8) but I made them a lot more dull than they could've been. I decided it was time to get unhooked so one day I just logged out and stopped playing.
I wouldn't do it again if I had the chance; in fact I stopped my younger brother from doing it before he made similar mistakes.
Erm don't know about a best moment, though I probably had the most fun when playing stuff like castle wars (when you stepped away from tedious grinding that felt more like work than fun). -
Re: RunescapeI remember a time when the max level was 126.....(Original post by Casshern1456)
I would do it all over again, I'm level 137 and haven't logged on in 3 and a half years
Anyway, best ingame moments was definitely spending time chatting to people and going to group events, without the people behind it I would have quit ages ago.
I still keep my account, so it can remind me of some of the little achievements I have and how I spent my youth lol. -
Re: Runescape
I loved RS! And sure I'll do it again - only if I have free time! I had no problem with it because I had no school work at that time (GCSE) so I had lots of free time, and I my friends didn't really plan social events... soo... we only spoke in school but sometimes I'd get invited to parties, but I never missed them - I never got that[/I] addicted to it! But it was a good time passer
..
But the only reason I loved it was because I had such amazing friends on there who made it worthwhile! I quit it due to A Levels, and had no problem quitting it! (My friends on there had already quit so...) :P But I plan on going back to it during the summer holidays... or not. I might do something better actually...

Re: RunescapeTHANK YOU!!!(Original post by I Kant Spall)
I liked RS and started to play back in 2004. Once I hit 99 in my first skill (Hunter), I lost pretty much all motivation to play. My fondest memories actually had more to do with fansites rather than the game itself. I met some awesome people on RS fansites and even started to write quest guides (back when there weren't so many). I still keep in touch with a couple, though they too have moved on from the game.
I would definitely play it again. It was my first real taste of the Internet and it also led me to realize what a valuable resource the Internet can bewhen you're not playing a Java-based RPG.
I probably wouldn't be able to get through 90% of the quests if it weren't for those guides. I never played the game for quests, I found them rather boring and tedious if I'm honest, but there were so many features in the game (i.e weapons) which required you to jump through these hoops so I had to go along. -
Re: RunescapeSame here.(Original post by Timor)
that game nearly ruined my life...
wasted so many hours on that crappy game, played it so much that it sort of became a bad habbit.. would play like 5+ hours a day
best game moment was when i got 600m from a drop party.
It's a bit sad really that 7 years of that game only got me £700 cash when i sold everything...
If you look at my school reports from year 7-11 you'll see all my grades slip as soon as I started Runescape. So in year 9 I ended up in low sets, so for alot of my GCSEs I was put into foundation papers and as a result got 6 Cs -.- 4bs and 2 as.
After quitting ,I'm on As again

Re: RunescapeHa, I can relate to every single thing you just said - apart from being banned from the forums lol. Castle Wars was epic - even though I rarely did very well on it, I probably spent about 10 days just playing that lol.(Original post by internet tough guy)

I think the quest on Ape Atoll you mean is Monkey Madness?
That was my favourite Runescape quest ever! I can remember it so well even though I did it over 5 years ago.
Even though I haven't properly played Runescape in several years, I still keep in touch with a couple of my friends from it.
I have so many good Runescape related memories, no way do I regret playing it. Crap, talking about it is making me wanna play it again now, even though I have A2 exams I should be revising for! Must resist!Last edited by Super Cicero; 09-05-2012 at 16:45. -
Re: RunescapeHaha same, I didn't tell anyone(Original post by Boom Boom Pow)
How did you sell it and how much did you get for it? Could do with the extra cash as I'm pretty sure I have around £300m sitting in the bank. Similar to you, although I never have the urge to play the game again, I would feel wierd selling it after the years I put into it.
I defiantly think the best moments for me were when I was new and everyday you could find out something new. Being given full iron armour and getting so excited lol. This game was defiantly my best kept secret.
- I went on a botting site which my brother used. I never botted because I always wanted to be a moderator like most of the population. He was a member there and so was trusted. He used a middle man which take some of the gold or cash you sell it for, sometimes it's free. They hold your gold, you tell them when you have received payment (paypal) and then they trade the gold to the buyer. I would suggest looking on botting websites... only sell to trusted middle mans though with big threads saying all the deals they've done.

Re: RunescapeYeah it was monkey madness, I remember now. It took me bloody ages to complete that quest!(Original post by Super Cicero)

My favourite part of Runescape was the friends I made on it, mainly through working together to make Runescape videos - like this one my friend made. Even though I haven't properly played Runescape in several years, I still keep in touch with a couple of my friends from it.

Yeah making friends was a great part of the game, I then joined a clan along with a few of my other RL friends, pretty sure we made a few videos as well of our clan wars and general PK'ing trips.
What years did you play over? I played from about late 2005 (or maybe early 2006? can't remember) to about late 2008, I think it covered runescape's time pretty well and at least I got to experience the so-called 'peak' of the game when old wildy was still around. Its shame though that they completely changed the wildy towards 2008 and along with other reasons (exams, etc), it pushed me into retirement, remember holding a drop party as well when I quit. -
Re: RunescapeI first started playing right at the start of Year 7 (September 2005), I got members in the summer of 2006, the era when I played it the most was from around early 2007 up to May 2008 when I quit, but then I started playing again during the summer of 2009 before quitting again. I might play it again this summer, before going to university, but I'm not sure I can really be bothered since none of my friends (either real life or old Runescape friends) play anymore, and Jagex have done a lot of crappy updates which have taken some of the fun out of the game. It annoys me when I occasionally check the news on the website and it all seems to be schemes by Jagex for them to make more money.(Original post by internet tough guy)
