I think though if you become a member now it's more like £5 or something. The reason mine is still low is because from when you sign up, they promise not to raise the monthly fee for you, a way to reward loyal members I suppose. So back when I joined it was at its cheapest and just hasn't risen. Also paying by direct debit is cheaper then methods like texting or buying monthly cards in the shops.
I have to pay the £5 because i get the cards in the shops. I haven't got a debit card and my mum i against internet shopping :P

I played for over 5 years..quit when i started university..then played again for a few months because i could not find any mature players.

All i heard from people was " Omfgorz your 20 and you still played LOL noob!"

I joined a little mature uk clan and enjoyed it but not like i did before when i was younger.

I wasted so much time..however if i could I WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN!

tbh the average age for members at least, is pretty high I think. Free to play is full of little kids, always has been, but I think the average age of the clan I'm in is probably 18-19. I know there are some groups dedicated to middle aged family guys and such.

    I loved it.

Remember cutting yew logs while marathoning anime and manga and learning stuff I was interested in, then losing it all on pvp.

Decided to quit when they got rid of the wildy and introduced the trade limit though.

    Those were the days.. ;_;

They got rid of the Wildy? Wow, i haven't been on this game in ages!

Remember merchanting bow strings, and i was meant to get 3M coins for like 24k bs, and i was trading with some fool who couldn't type in 3M. Instead he puts 30M and i carry on as usual.

It wasn't a scam, i like to call it a large tip for helping the guy

Yeah, they did it to stop all the real world trading that was happening and all. Though the wildy is meant to be back now.

They even have a grand exchange thing which allows you to trade your goods on a market so you don't have to 'physically' meet each other and trade. It sucks. Merchanting and trying to get a good deal in general or 'scamming' used to be the best part of the game.

Going to W1 and selling all your stuff, and laughing at the idiots who you 'took advantage' off was great. But now everything happens in the GE, so imo, it's become sort of a solo casual game - probably to suit the facebookers.

    - Remember actually meeting up with people from forums and getting regular buyers and sellers back then...

Yeah i remember about 5 or so years ago when you were sort of 'left on your own device', in the sense that jagex didn't have your back covered if you were so stupid.

I loved going into the wildy, and finding someone a higher or lower combat level and teasing them by running back and forth!

Ahhh, i remember Castle Wars and that monster game thing that to get your stats up.

I loved roaming the f2p worlds and noobs asking 'zomg where u get X item/clothing from dude' haha.

I started playing Runescape in 2004, and I quit around 07/08 I think. So many memories, fishing for lobsters in Catherby + flax picking. Castle Wars, getting my first dragon weapon, etc etc. Was it a waste of time? Yes. But the fun it gave me and the good teenage memories means it was worth it

    Re: Runescape
RS Classic was good, i spent years on it. However globalization basically destroyed RS2. Jaqex changed from being a family based British company run by the Gower brothers, now to a multinational company with servers all over the world. In the old days with RS Classic there was only a few hundred people online, it was faster, and the community was better. There were holiday drops, and basically the items were better because they were simplistic. The wilderness though was the key success and joy of RS Classic. Everything about RS2 in comparison is awful. Heck, most online worlds now, the people don't even speak English. Back on RS Classic virtually all the worlds were UK and everyone spoke our language, i've logged on a few times now to not understand what people are saying. Furthermore the game lags terrible, there are too many players.

The only thing i sometimes log onto RS2 is to do a quest if i get the spare time.

I would say i am one of the oldest players, although i'm only 22 i started playing very young. I have Scythe from the 2003 Halloween drop which is about the only thing that makes my account unique, my stats are really no good.

Last time i logged in i respawned in Lumbridge only to see people doing cyber sex, as i said the community isn't pleasant. Back on RS Classic everyone behaved.

real world trading has been since the beginning. When i was younger at school, people used to come in with pound coins to buy addy or rune armour. funny times, because quite a few people who gave other kids cash got conned. lol. They never traded when they got back home.

Lol, we're just normal, albeit somewhat mentally unstable, people. :P

As much fun as I had working at Jagex and heading up Moderator Recruitment for RuneScape, I can't see myself returning in the foreseeable future: I'm just about to start an MA at Durham University and then I hope to progress on to a Ph.D - So I think it's going to be the academic route for me, rather than the Games Industry.

I was never obsessed with it but my brother was. He'd wake up at like four in the morning and go to bed at one and would usually only come out if it he needed a drink of needed to visit the loo. It resulted in him not caring about his GCSEs (he's in college now). My dad acted by blocking the website. Now he basically goes on YouTube watching the videos of Runescape.
