Re: The Arsenal Thread XIIWell you have to pay the remainder of the contract as a lump sum so it is better to loan them out and save a % of the wage but it is a pain in the arse to have them sitting around we could have offered Nasri a better contract if we didnt for example and we could give RVP closer to the amount he deserves even if he says he dont care about money(Original post by Peggles_*)
Can't we just release them from their contracts, It may cost a bit, but I would be happy knowing they won't be sitting around collecting a wage for underperforming. -
Re: The Arsenal Thread XII
Almunia's contract runs out so he will be released.
Denilson is probably going back to Sao Paolo, either on loan or permanently, while Vela is expected to sign permanently for Real Sociedad.
As for Bendtner, he says he doesn't want to stay at Arsenal, but doesn't want to join Sunderland permanently either, so we'll have to wait and see what happens there - he'll probably move to the Bundesliga. -
Re: The Arsenal Thread XIIWhat? £130K is more than enough for a player like V.Persie.(Original post by alexsong)

Yes other players earn insane amounts of money, but that is not sustainable for a club like ours. How can anyone justify football players earning anything above £150K I will never understand. -
Re: The Arsenal Thread XIIWe have the 3rd or 4th highest wage bill in the league so it isnt like we have things tightly under wraps is it ? Djourou triggers a 50k a week contract extension by virtue of playing x games since his last one despite some of the dreadful performances he has turned in.(Original post by Ultimate1)

When RVP is heads and shoulders above everyone else you could easily give him 180k or 200k a week, if someone like Song or Walcott moans about it then tell them to go out there and earn it the same way he has because he is just a different class
Would you rather he got an extra 50k a week or our American owner who goes to one game a year and never does anything keeps it or gives it to that cock Gazidis ? -
Re: The Arsenal Thread XII
We could cut all the deadwood we want and we still wouldn't be able to offer Van Persie a contract that he'd get at City. It would just trigger the rest of the team to ask for more and if they dont get it, they'll leave. That'll be much worse than giving Van Persie a big contract. Lets just face it, we will never be able to compete with teams that can offer those wages unless we get someone like Usmanov on the board to offer that type of investment.

Re: The Arsenal Thread XII
Tbh I don't think a higher wage is the top of RVP's priorities; if you remember in 2009, when he was stalling signing a new contract, he said that financially the club's offer was fine, but it was about whether or not he could fulfill his ambitions with the club in the future. He said that winning only one trophy was not enough for him, and that he wants to achieve more. 3 years on, a trophy still hasn't been won, and whatever amount of money we throw at him won't be able to compensate for that. The only thing we can do to convince him to stay is sign high quality players that have a strong potential to mount a title challenge.

Re: The Arsenal Thread XIIThe Euros couldn't have come at a worse time. It just makes everything so difficult from flogging players to buying new players. I just hope Wenger and Gazidis have a structured plan together on how they approach the transfer market after the Euros.(Original post by Nucleolus)

Re: The Arsenal Thread XIIIt depends. If we're interested in a player and they do well in the Euros, their value skyrockets. Which is why I think we should have sign M'Vila before the Euros if we are genuinely interested him. I think he will have a good tournament at DM for France.(Original post by Darth Vader 7)

Having said that, if RVP performs well in the Euros, his value would also go up, wouldn't it? If he is intent on leaving, we might as well sell him for a lot of money, free up the wages, and rebuild by getting a couple of good strikers.
Whatever happens, we need to rebuild our squad in terms of bench players. These are estimates of the wages for players I see us/I would like to see us get rid of:
Almunia - £60k - absolutely ridiculous for a 3rd choice keeper
Fabianski - £40k - second choice keeper
Just to start off, if we get rid of both, £100k is freed up. Getting a backup keeper for realistic wages should not cost as much, so we'll already save some wage space.
Squillaci - £60k - ridiculous for 5th choice CB ; ret rid for any amount ASAP
Denilson - £50k - has no future with Arsenal; could fetch us some money in the transfer market back to Brazil
Arshavin - £80k - need to sell back to Russia ASAP; hasn't performed for us.
Vela - £50k - probably going to leave
Bendtner - £52k - needs to leave
Chamakh - £50k - we can get better backup strikers for £50kpw
Park - £40k - useless
How on earth does any sane person pay bench players this amount of money when your star player is earning £90k in comparison? It's asinine. I don't agree with how much footballers are paid, but relatively, this is a ****ty wage structure in Arsenal and it needs to be broken either way. -
Re: The Arsenal Thread XIII know, how we act in this transfer window determines whether we can keep RVP and become a title-challenging club, but the Euro complicates everything in that regard. I guess that's what the board and Wenger get for not sorting out everything sooner. It's going to be a stressful Summer.(Original post by Darth Vader 7)

Re: The Arsenal Thread XII
Regarding M'Vila:
Apparently he's a licensed coach with UEFA and a former agent with links to Inter and an Inter fan. He was the first to mention Chelsea's interest in Mata last Summer as well. Of course this is Twitter so take it with a pinch of salt.Christian @FreddieBoswell7
Inter Milan were told he was joining Arsenal by his agent, agent hasn't got back to Inter to say otherwise.
Inter have signed Fredy Guarin on a permanent contract for ~€11M though, so they're likely out of the M'Vila race, which is good news because they were the only other club linked to him besides us. -

Re: The Arsenal Thread XIII don't see why M'Vila would choose Inter over us if he has ambition for CL places in any case.(Original post by Nucleolus)

Re: The Arsenal Thread XIIThe wage argument is so boring now. How many times do we have to go through the concept of hindsight? All of those players had potential to become good to great players at Arsenal. Unfortunately they didn't and Wenger's gamble didn't pay off. However, every single other manager in the world does this. It's not unique to Arsenal.(Original post by Xotol)

My only qualm with the wage structure is how much we offer youngsters. Sometimes it works with the likes of Fabregas, Wilshere, Chamberlain and so on. However, when it goes wrong, we lose a lot of money due to the length of the contract. -
Re: The Arsenal Thread XIIA 13 year old instead of M'vila? Sure sounds like Wenger's type of transfer.(Original post by ??????????????????)
Didn't his agent just say that so that they could get more money from Inter?

Re: The Arsenal Thread XIIBut if his agent told Inter that M'Vila signed for Arsenal, then he's effectively telling them that there's no chance that they can sign him. I could understand if he told Inter that M'Vila is intending to sign for Arsenal to get more money from them, but otherwise it doesn't make sense.(Original post by ??????????????????)

Um, isn't Nabay 13 years old or something?
My thoughts exactly.(Original post by Xotol)
I don't see why M'Vila would choose Inter over us if he has ambition for CL places in any case. -
Re: The Arsenal Thread XIIWell, yes, I appreciate that, but now it's time to get rid of the dead weight. It's a waste of money just letting them rot on the bench while earning £50k. That's why action needs to be taken now.(Original post by Darth Vader 7)

And lol if you think the likes of Squillaci had the potential to become 'good to great' players at Arsenal. -
Re: The Arsenal Thread XIISquillaci seemed like a decent player when we bought him, an experienced player who was good for Sevilla and was part of the French NT.(Original post by Xotol)

I don't think anyone predicted that he would turn out as terrible as he did tbh, least of not Wenger. -
Re: The Arsenal Thread XII
Squillaci came to Arsenal with a good reputation, so its no wonder he's on highish wages. The issue is he's been so spectacularly terrible for us that no-one will take a punt on him now.
Almunia and Fabianski were supposed to be vying for the number one spot, so again its no surprise their wages are pretty high. Remember Szcz only emerged last year.
Chamakh was playing well for Bordeaux, started well for us, and since he was free some of the money that might have gone on a transfer will be in his wages.
Arshavin is our record signing and was supposed to be amazing. He's not had a great time at Arsenal, but its not exactly surprising that a record signing would be on 80k pw or more.
The rest I can understand being annoyed at. You can get annoyed at the wage structure, but the examples that get given to criticise it are often terrible.
