Re: Warrington Campus 2012
Hey guys,
I'm a student at Warrington just about to go into my second year in September. I'm doing radio and journalism but was originally doing tv instead of journalism so know a bit about the media side of things if anyone has any questions!
Warrington's a really nice campus, as Tom said you get to know people really quickly (make sure you head to the bar!) and it all becomes like a little (big) family. It's quite a small place and at first you think you're stuck in the middle of nowhere but then you make friends with someone who has a car and everything's fine :P or you just hop on the bus which is quite cheap to the town centre.
Co-op's a 5/10 minute walk down a straight road where there's also a chinese, indian and chippy. Asda's a bit further away I'd say 20/30 minute walk up and down some hills and I wouldn't recommend the walk on your own in the dark but there's a bus or £4 taxi. There's a campus shop but whenever I've used it this year they always seem to have run out of bread and milk... but they're always happy to give you change for the washing machines!
There's two train stations near, Padgate and Birchwood. Padgates about 15 minutes (has less trains) and Birchwood's right by Asda. Half an hour into Manchester and just a bit longer into Liverpool.
If you're interested in sport, definitely join a team because its a great way to make friends and you need those Wednesday socials!
I lived in Newton the first year (en-suite/semi catered) which was fine (nice to have your own shower/toilet!) but they generally tend to stick to themselves, so if you end up in Newton, don't hide yourself away! I spent quite a bit of time in other halls and unless you're in Manchester, College Close or Newton generally all the halls are the same.
Hopefully you'll all really enjoy yourself when you come in September!
Feel free to ask any questions! x -
Re: Warrington Campus 2012Hey, sorry the reply is so late, only just seen this! Yeah I really like radio, one module is mostly just doing a show like every 2 weeks and the other is about radio adverts, like you have to make your own. Most people that do radio have their own show in their spare time like on evenings or weekends. One of my house mates does radio and tv so its not unheard of(Original post by universitygirl2012)
Hey Stu, what's radio and commercial music like? You enjoying it? What do you do in 1st year? Thinking of applying Radio Production with TV. Do you know of anyone who is currently doing this combined course? Would be good to talk to a few current students to get more of a feel of the course. Totally looking forward to freshers, will be good to get out there and meet some new people
)
I would definitely recommend going for Manchester halls as its easily the nicest, I don't think the other halls are that cracking..... But yeah freshers is great fun and all the clubs in town are really cheap!

Re: Warrington Campus 2012
Once we have our results will we get a letter or something with a list of things which we may need for our course? Such as materials and equipment? Because I am not 100% sure what i need to bring with me ..... im going to be studying Digital Photography combined with Radio Production
Thanks

Re: Warrington Campus 2012Thank you, do you know when or will it be when we hear if we have our places etc..??(Original post by Lil2wkd)
I beleieve they'll contact you yes Shellly1, they gave us a reading list before we started English two years ago. -
Re: Warrington Campus 2012I'd speculate it'll be within a fortnight of results day, could be sooner, could be later. As for cutlery and stuff... If its fully catered the uni will provide. If its not, i wouldn't want to guess one way or the other-I never lived in halls. I will say though it IS handy to have your own stuff and to keep it in your room, in case of emergencies/takeaways(Original post by Shelllyy1)
Another question, will we get a starter pack when we join as I dont want to go and buy plate etc if uni will provide it
Thanks

Re: Warrington Campus 2012If you're living in any type of accommodation provided by the uni then you will need to bring with you things like plates, cutlery, saucepans, baking tray, tin opener etc. They provide you with a microwave, toaster, kettle, cooker and a fridge freezer all of which are shared between a number of you. Don't worry about bottle openers though; plenty of those flying around.(Original post by Shelllyy1)

You'll need things for washing up and if you don't want to risk the tumble dryers then a clothes horse is a good idea.
You do get a starter pack but it contains a few snacks, bottle opener, map of campus and things like that. -
Re: Warrington Campus 2012Okay thank you very much, just wasnt sure(Original post by tomlittle1)
