one of the best youth systems, if not the best in the country. -
Re: Aston Villa relegated?Selling players from under his feet? When Man City, Liverpool and Man United come knocking offering Villa's best players silly money they are going to be the ones clambering for the exits rather than Randy ushering them out.(Original post by Alofleicester)
The crap players that had you punching well above your weight? The players that Lerner was selling from under O'Neill's feet?
MON was never one to take crap like that from a chairman, sticking his nose in where it wasn't wanted. The general consensus from fans I've talked to seems to be that he walked because he'd had enough of Lerner selling players and then not giving any of that money to O'Neill to actually replace them.
Yeah, he may have had a few bad points, every manager has, but he took you well above your standard, making average players like Gareth Barry look like world beaters and yet your fans don't appear to be as grateful for that as they should be.
He spent silly money paying over the odds for English players like Davies, Sidwell, Reo-joker, Delph. That's over 26 million there alone, in the mean time he was reluctant to use players that had come through the youth system like Cahill and Gardner.
He proved that with a huge war chest he couldn't move the team on to the next level so why on earth should Lerner have given him even more money to piss up the wall?
He did wonders for Leicester a long time ago, and just because you appreciate him for that job doesn't mean Villa fans should for what he did at theirs. Compare the job he did to what Moyes continues to do. I'd say O'neil failed at Villa. -
Re: Aston Villa relegated?
Think they've unfortunately done too much to stay up this year. Definitely in danger next season though, they bear a frightening resemblance to us (NUFC) pre-relegation at the minute. Hoping they survive by the skin of their teeth this season, followed by a struggle next season culminating in being sent down on the last day of the season at SJP. One can dream, eh?

As for MON, he's an absolute disaster for the long-term prospects of any club, much of Villa's problems now are owed to him, he's a complete car crash in the transfer market. It won't be long (give it a few transfer windows) before he sends Sunderland down **** creek without a paddle. -

Re: Aston Villa relegated? If you compare the job most managers have done to what Moyes is doing, then they've failed. The job he's done at Everton is pretty much unrivalled. O'Neill still took them to three successive 6th placed finishes, a position they've only got as high as one other time since the 1999/2000 season.(Original post by original_username)

and which players have you produced in recent times?
And incredibly it didn't come off his shin, so they never made a dramatic advert about it

Re: Aston Villa relegated?
Definitely not. I mean what could I possibly be bitter about? Our clubs have travelled in complete opposite directions since that day, the relegation proved to be a massive blessing in disguise and we even extracted personal revenge by humiliating you at home last season. It's not as if Villa were responsible for the relegation, it was the culmination of a piss poor season. So no, definitely not bitter. I did however lose all respect I had for the fans of Aston Villa that day, such a small time attitude, you celebrated as if you'd won the league ffs.

Re: Aston Villa relegated?A bit harsh. Lots of us there really wanted Newcastle to stay up. Maybe we were just pleased to win the final game of the season...?(Original post by JAnderson91)

Deluded? About what? Have we not improved dramatically since that day? Have you not similarly been on the decline ever since? Do you disagree that relegate was a blessing in disguise for Newcastle United? Did we not humiliate you on your first visit the SJP since? I'm sorry, but I fail to see what I've said could possibly constitute delusion.
I'm disappointed that instead of responding with something sensible you've reached for one of the most battered and boring cliches regarding NUFC.
You've still not told me what I could possibly be bitter about, by the way.Last edited by JAnderson91; 03-05-2012 at 22:24. -
Re: Aston Villa relegated?Possibly, but every club has some decent supporters, and I'm sure a sizeable, established top flight club like Villa has it's fair share. The majority let you down that day though (although I've no doubt there were plenty day-trippers there just to see us go down, Villa Park is rarely so full) with that banner (I bet they felt foolish when McLeish was unveiled as the new Villa messiah(Original post by little_wizard123)
A bit harsh. Lots of us there really wanted Newcastle to stay up. Maybe we were just pleased to win the final game of the season...?
) and the response at the final whistle.

Re: Aston Villa relegated?
I have to agree I was foaming with the Villa fans that day, they absolutely revelled in our relegation.
It would be amusing for them to experienced what we went through.
Then again it come back to bite us back on the arse in a couple of years instead.
Spoiler:ShowWould still piss myself laughing if they went down though

Re: Aston Villa relegated?
Most of the footballing world were happy to see the geordies relegated. Villa were just fortunate enough to have it happen at their gaff. And the brummie wit prevailed with that banner.
Dont know why the toons are so bitter, everyone wanted you down that day not just the villa.
You and Villa are very similar, both set of fans suffer from delusions of grandeur. Villa with their history, and toon with their fanbase. Bore off the pair of yas. -
Re: Aston Villa relegated?
Cheering the relegation of Newcastle is all they had left that season. Result for them in the most minor of ways.
Its a sad indictment of the country's second largest city that their lives are that empty and boring that the fate of a north eastern football club inspires them to bring a **** attempt at humour (what else? the only joke in Birmingham is the accent) on a banner. You expect rubbish like that from the mackems. Although to be fair both Birmingham and Sunderland are ignoramus filled dumps so a similar mentality is probably inevitable.
Edit: And yeah I'd love to see those sad ***** drop into the championship, hopefully with CH's 'group of lads' passing them in the opposite direction.

Granted us Birmingham fans wouldn't have made a banner for the occasion, but it was funny nonetheless.
What mentality would that be? Having a laugh?
And as for the accent comment, glass houses and stones n all that. -
Re: Aston Villa relegated?
What on earth are you Newcastle fans on about? If Norwich relegate us on the final day I would fully expect them to taunt us, with voice or via banner. I'd be pissed off with the season we'd had that got us relegated, not the fans of some team on the other side of the country who we happened to play last and send us down.
I certainly wouldnt hold grudges against them for what they'd said and done - if I did that I would hate every set of home fans of every other team from when I've traveled away to see Villa play, and hold grudges against the lot of them. OK, so not Fulham, but everyone else.
