Durham or Manchesr for International business?!
Hi everyone,
I have read many threads on the board in regards to Manchester or Durham however nothing really answers the questions I have. This is mostly in reference to Post graduate study, but either way hope you can help.
I have a conditional offer from Durham for Msc Management (International business) and I'm waiting for a reply from Manchester for Mbus Global business analysis.
Both similar but slightly different courses.
I am a mature student so I've had my fun, not really bothered about night life and such. I really just want to go to the University that has the edge or in fact that has the better business school. International reputation and employment are equally important to me.
I am aware both unis have good reputations and I have already confirmed that I will be based in Durham city although not sure which college yet. I have other offers but these are my top choices.
Sorry for the long post.
Any thoughts?

Re: Durham or Manchesr for International business?!
For business school, I vote for mbs.
your program has a an internship in famous companies
a big city
the third largest library in uk
I think if you want to study business, you'd better choose a big city and opportunities in famous companies
Manchester is the most target university -
Re: Durham or Manchester for International business?!
Thanks for the responses.
I must admit I do love the appeal of Manchester but I am more inclined to pick a university based on the quality of teaching over the city.
They both have their pros and cons but I believe where you are educated matters just as much as how well you do, to employers.
Any other thoughts?

Re: Durham or Manchesr for International business?!
I haven't really thought about this aspect, but you are right. Where is the highest volume and variety of business activity undertaken? In the big cities.
TBD

Re: Durham or Manchesr for International business?!
I think the general consensus is that Durham is more reputable overall, whereas Manchester is better for business. So it depends what is more important for you - the overall or the subject reputation.
So according to this table Manchester is targeted by more top employers than LBS, LSE, UCL, KCL and a few others, all taken as a group? I find this really hard to believe.Last edited by lego; 07-05-2012 at 10:13. -
Re: Durham or Manchesr for International business?!Manchester University is the largest Russell Group University in the UK. I believe thats why the employability figures are distorted.(Original post by lego)

Re: Durham or Manchesr for International business?!I know that, I study there. The thing is according to wikipedia Manchester has 40,000 students. Whereas University of London has 135,000. Even if we take only LSE (9,000), UCL (23,000) and King's (18,000), which are all part of the Russell Group and University of London, that's 50,000 students at universities which are better/on par with Manchester. That's why I was surprised Manchester is ranked higher than University of London in the table.(Original post by SkyScraper)
