Re: AS Edexcel Biology Unit 1 June 12- 14th of MayThere was a NH3 group?(Original post by neom)
I wrote, one of the products had a NH3 group. Then I wrote that all had methyl groups in different places, so each had a different structure. -
Re: AS Edexcel Biology Unit 1 June 12- 14th of Mayi said so thnx anyway(Original post by oli_G)
They had different groups attached to different nitrogen atoms. For example there were two of them with CH3 groups attached to a particular nitrogen whereas the other was attached to a hydrogen. -
Re: AS Edexcel Biology Unit 1 June 12- 14th of MayYeah, I'm pretty sure. It was in the middle product.(Original post by oli_G)
There was a NH3 group? -
Re: AS Edexcel Biology Unit 1 June 12- 14th of MayHmm, it even talks about that enzyme on the page(Original post by viclupa1)
holy crap! you found it!!! I put there were different amount of hydrogen present and different amounts of CH3 present.

Re: AS Edexcel Biology Unit 1 June 12- 14th of May(Original post by ANDREW_AKRAm)
why there are several enzymes for breaking the coffeine
I put that firstly each enzyme catalyses a specific reaction and will lead to one product forming. There are three different products formed in the breakdown therefore three different enzymes have to be involved.(Original post by viclupa1)
what did people put for the reason why there are many different enzymes present in the breakdown of caffine? -
Re: AS Edexcel Biology Unit 1 June 12- 14th of MayWell it breaks down to glycerol and fatty acids and they are joined by ester bonds(Original post by Kabelan1)
so what were the answers of the tryglyceride one? -

i was so nervous about that question -
Re: AS Edexcel Biology Unit 1 June 12- 14th of MayDammit, I think I only got 1 mark out of 3... I said something similar to what you said about the enzyme catalysing for a specific product, but then I sprouted some rubbish when I couldn't think of anything else to try and get the remaining marks.(Original post by oli_G)

Re: AS Edexcel Biology Unit 1 June 12- 14th of May
What's the general opinion of the exam overall? Hard, medium or easy?
I found it hard, so I'm hoping for low grade boundaries. But I did like the start of the paper and the end questions, the middle parts of the exam are probably what screwed me over
