Maths PGCE, UoN, Student Finance problem.
Hi,
I have already emailed my [prospective] university about this, and don't want to have to ring up Student finance because it will cost me a bomb.
When applying for my student finance i have filled out all of the areas, except the part with the specific course name etc.
I put in
and then for the course name i have triedUniversity/college name : Nottingham University.
University/college UCAS code: N84
Course UCAS code: G1X1
It seems to be that Student finance cannot identify the course code."PGCE Mathematics Secondary", "PGCE Secondary Mathematics" and "Secondary PGCE Mathematics".
Does anybody know if i have done something wrong and what i could do to rectify it? (it would be particularly helpful if anyone else has had the same propblem and been able to solve it lol) -
Re: Maths PGCE, UoN, Student Finance problem.
Have you tried just putting in the UCAS code for the uni and course in and nothing else. or the UCAS code for the uni and "PGCE" or "Secondary" in the course the name box. Try different combinations of two pieces of infomation. The more info you put in the more you are restricting the search so its trying to find a course the matches all 4 pieces of info so it might be that on the system the uni is down as The University of Nottingham but because your searching for Nottingham University with UCAS N84 it doesn't find it because there isn't anything which matchs that info.

Re: Maths PGCE, UoN, Student Finance problem.i put in "Nottingham University" and it automatically fills in the other box with "N84"(Original post by MrB810)

and then vice versa.
I've tried loads of combos of the words. I'm worried that i've filled something out wrong earlier on, but i can't seem to be able to go back and change it now that i've "saved" it. It doesn't help that i am very likely to have made a mistake because the questions on Student Finance are so peculiarly worded :/ -
Re: Maths PGCE, UoN, Student Finance problem. Its much much easier to apply for PGCE funding on a paper form rather than using the online form. You can download them from the website and just post it back.
This has been a constant problem for online PGCE funding applications since at least 2009 and the easiest way you can get around it is by applying on a paper form so you can write exactly what you want. My course didn't exist on SFE online so I just applied on paper with the exact same information and it was processed.
I'd never had any issues in my life with student finance then I applied for a PGCE and it was as though SFE had never heard of one before! The advice we've always given on TSR for PGCE student finance is to use a paper form and if you have to speak to SFE on the phone do not assume that the person you're speaking to has any idea what so ever what a PGCE is, how you get onto one, whether you're allowed to have funding etc. You will more than likely need to explain everything and have them tell you that you're ineligible for funding because its a postgraduate course and/or you already have a degree. -

You would've thought that the universities would be aware of this in the first place wouldn't you?
And in being aware should they not inform the students who have successfully applied to them?
So, so, so annoying!
