I saw a monstrocity in my shed. What is it?
It looks just like a beaver, nutria, or groundhog except it has a small skinny tail with hair on the end, mUch like a horse. I just saw it living in the shed of my backyard. I have never seen anything like it around here.

Thats the first thing I thought of, but on Wikipedia it says that Nutria are extinct in Illinois, and have been eradicated in neighboring Indiana, so that cant be it.

What about a muskrat - they are present in your area?

or a virginia opossum - these are often found in sheds

You can't stop the zoologist in me can you!

You 'just' saw it 'living' in your shed?

Then where the hell did it go?

Its definitely not an opossum, its in the rodent family, and no it isnt a muskrat. It looks just like a nutria just with a different tail.

My shed has a hole in the door, and cats often live in there, which I have no problem with. But I looked out my window today and saw this animal in my backyard, and it was eating from a tree branch, then it went into the hole in the shed, so its say to say that it is living, i.e. rooming, in my shed.

Snap. Have you inspected the backyard/shed for droppings, loose fur or anything that can identify this animal?

Keep vigilant, keep a journal and see if you can spot it again; turn this into an adventure!

Get your camera ready, quickly open the shed door, take a picture and slam the door shut before it attacks you.

    Then post here.
