Depressing film to make me cry? :)
Whether you think cinema died with Hitchcock or only got good once Michael Bay started blowing up helicopters, this is the place where moving pictures are discussed.

Re: Depressing film to make me cry? :)Yep. Can't disagree with you there. Saw it with my friend who never cries at anything thing though so was kind of embarrasing...(Original post by MrHappy_J)
Never Let Me Go = probably the most depressing film in cinema history.

Re: Depressing film to make me cry? :)North Face (Nordwand). A German film chronicling the attempts of two men to scale the treacherous north face of the Eiger (a mountain). It doesn't sound very sad, but it is honestly the most depressing film I have ever watched.
It's not particularly sad (well, it is sad), but it is mostly emotionally draining, which leaves you feeling very empty after watching it. It's difficult to explain exactly why this film is so depressing without spoiling it, so...
Actual spoilers below -- you may not want to read if you want to have the full emotional impact.
Spoiler:ShowThe two main characters, along with two other men they climb with, all die at the end in a very tragic way. What makes the film even more depressing is that it is based on a true story, and in fact the true story is even more depressing than the film is.
The film portrays the characters as if at least one of them is going to survive and conquer, but really every single one dies, after you emotionally connect with them. The last one dies despite numerous attempts to save his life, coming very close but not managing, and he freezes to death.Last edited by punctuation; 08-05-2012 at 01:07. -

Moon. Probably the saddest film I've ever seen, the sad bit comes as such a shock too. Great film.
For me the sadest films ive seen apart from this one are;
I am Legend
man on fire
armageddon
lion king
gladiator
braveheart
donnie darko
stand by me
the guardian
remember me
marley and me
lord of the rings return of the king
Harry potter when Cedric, sirius and snape (bawled like a baby at snape)
and We were soldiers- (i was pretty inconsolable for a good half an hour after this as one of my friends was joing the army and i didnt want it to happen to him, i was like 16 tho lol)Last edited by xx-Samantha-xx; 08-05-2012 at 01:56. -

Re: Depressing film to make me cry? :)I was in a really good mood. I listened to this and imagined that my family (who have just gone out) died in a car crash and now I'm in floods of tears...(Original post by Sir Fox)
Just listen to Vide Cor Meum by Patrick Cassidy (classical piece) and imagine the most precious person you know died. Should finish you off

Armageddon
Lion King (the first one)
Gladiator
Remember Me
Marley and Me
LOTR: Return of the King
**LOTR: Return of King was the first of the LOTR film I watched at the time. I got on a date with my brother and sister; we were late to buy the tickets so we had the front row seat and the screen was up our heads and breaking our necks! Yet I cried when Frodo and Sam was nearly at the brink of death! haha
Also these made me cry too:
Hachiko (I was shocked that an animal like him actually existed! Cry throughout!)
A Walk to Remember
The Object of My Affection (I guess I was jealous that he was gay but he was suited for her. how unfair.)
PS I Love You
Titanic
City of Angels (I hated the last part where he said to one of his friends something like it was all (him being an angel then become human and she died in the end) worth it.
Mann (a hindi film based on an American one-granted, it was a cliche but I still cried. Damn songs have very deep meaning.)
I still have some on my list but I don't remember the names. songs make me cry too. and manga. and anime. -
