Sociology AS Unit 1 revision thread?
I'm about to resit my AS Unit 1 exam for sociology in 2 weeks, and I was wondering if anyone could suggest any ways to help? Or ways to remember all of the information and theories/sociologists/dates? No matter how much revision I do, it always seems like I haven't actually done much, and it isn't sticking.

Also, I was wondering if it's the same exam again when you resit? I've never resat any exams before so I'm unsure.

    Thanks!

Your retake exam will be a different one.

I have got this book which I am going over the families and household unit in. It has two practice tests.

You only have to remember theories and sociologists names, dates aren't important.

Just remember e.g. Murdock is a functionalist and said the nuclear family performs four functions: Sexual, Economic, Educational and Reproductive. The method I use to remember this is Murdock - SEER.

Revise info like Parsons = warm bath theory/expressive and instrumental roles/primary socialisation.

Try and keep the info you learn concise and it will stick better perhaps.

Good luck, I am also retaking, not looking forward to it at all.

I've got the re-take exam too on the 17th And I feel as if I've forgotten everything for it, apart from demograpghy & divorce, because of the next unit we've started & education is taking over my time for revising now. I was wondering if anyone KNOWS what is likely to come in the familes and households paper??? I remember coming on a thread in january and people were saying they were sure that social policy would appear, and guess what IT DID! :/ Soo worried! Because previously I came out with an E, and my target gardes a C and I have a bad feeling this may happen again.

I got a C overall I'm retaking for a B or by some miracle an A which is what I wanted in the first place. I feel as well like no matter how much revision I do it's never enough.

I have heard people saying that childhood will come up and demography.

I hope not demography because I don't get that. Oh and I heard Marxism =/

I feel the exact same way, I did 6hours revision yesterday, and yes that didn't sink much in by the morning :/ Hopefully childhood and demography does come up, because I feel quite confident on them to! Would be a relife if divorce came up, since it's quite simple.

Anything but NOT marxism! Really don't understand how I can do any essay on that!

*Hope you don't mind me asking, but what would be a best way to get a C since you got it, I'm failing miserably in getting it. E's are turning into a friend of mine recenetly - Thanks in advance

I basically got a high B on paper 2 education and an E on paper 1 families which averaged a C so I have no idea on earth how you get that. I don't even know what I did right, or wrong, since the grades are so different.. I think I didn't write enough in paper 1 or something.......I really don't know I'm at a loss with this, it's too hard to write two well thought out essays in 1 hour with the other questions too. Stupid system..

Oh that is good! I have the education exam tomorrow..too much content to get in since I have familes & households on thuesday -.- That is true, the garde boundaries change higher, just hope it doesn't happen this time. Your right it really is Impossible to do two good essays that are worth 24 marks & 12 mark questions in just 1hour. Guess i'll just have to pray something horrid doesn't come up..

Make sure you know some studies for main concepts and in cooperate it with points you make, and continuously link back to the question. That should help you, and make sure you know the concepts well enough to have an opinion about it so that you can make points about it.

P.s. i found making flashcards with all the studies for each topic really helpful to remember (I did this exam in January (AQA))

    Hope this helps.
