    Nokia Lumia 800
    Hi,

I was wondering if you guys could help. I've just got this phone on a 24 month contract through Vodafone, and I'm quite happy with the phone on the whole. I had some frends round last night and a couple of them were like 'omg take the phone back right now! Windows and Nokia phones are terrible and will break in like 10 seconds'.

I'm really worried now I bought a rubbish phone, and i'm starting to think I should change it, as i've still got my 14 day grace period.

How many people have this phone? What are your opinions on it? Do you wish youd got a better / different phone?

    Thanks

    I'm hopefully getting the 710 in a month's time.

I think phones are like laptops and TVs etc. Everyone knows someone who had a bad experience with Nokia/Samsung/Dell. But then everyone knows someone else who had a fantastic experience.

Windows phones are good simply because they run beautifully and don't really lag? And nokia are a good old brand of mobile phone, they know what they're doing - Unlike companies like LG!

I think you'll be perfectly happy with it, never listen to what people say about brands until you've experienced it yourself

As I stated above, I haven't actually got this phone, but will be getting the next model down - and have heard nothing but good reviews

To put it eloquently, your friends are talking out of their arses. Nokia are known for their excellent build quality and Windows Phone 7 is a very stable OS. It might have its shortcomings in terms of features, but it's no more at risk of breaking than any other handset in terms of either hardware or software. I've had my Lumia for 6 months now and haven't had a single issue with it.

My sister's had the lumina since christmas and she loves it! It's good quality and she's had no issues with it breaking or anything so I'd say you're getting a decent phone

Ok so maybe it's karma for making this thread or whatever... I chose the Nokia Lumia 800. I've had it for about 4 days, and it's already showing faults. It freezes when connecting and disconnecting calls, it is really bad coz I can't hang up after speaking to someone so i have to wait til the other person has, or i'll be on the line for ever.
Anyone have any solutions to this?
    Grrr. Not impressed.

Might be an issue with your handset? My old samsung had the same problem it wouldn't disconnect if I used the touch screen so I had to send it back.

I haven't had that problem, nor have I seen it being commented on as being common. There was an important hardware update a few weeks back which fixed the extremely common issues of extremely bad battery life and very little bass in the speakers...these are the 'common' problems your friends might have heard about. Again, haven't seen anything about freezing with calls.

Bring it back to the shop and see about getting it fixed or a replacement if the problem is really bad, it sounds very annoying alright.

I have my (pink!!) Lumia 800 a few months now and I could not be happier with it. People are knocking it primarily because it doesn't have near as many apps as android and apple, which is no suprise given that both have a few years headstart on it. It still has most of the best apps though. It's a great phone, I hope you get to enjoy yours! The interface alone beats apple and android hands down, it's amazing.

The Lumias will be stuck on 7.5 and won't receive windows 8 updates in the autumn. It just depends whether you're okay with having a phone which probably won't receive any updates when this occurs.

Been waiting for the 800 to drop in price, when the 900 comes out and if 800 drops in price will consider it! Been tempted by the 800 for a long time

If you're not getting it on billpay, get it on amazon.de its cheaper and they are developer unlocked. They have it in all of the colours and they get updates faster.

It's a great phone, and in my opinion, the premium Windows Phone device on the market. The Windows Phone OS has been fantastic in my experience, and in all honesty, your friends have no idea what they're talking about.

I am using the Lumia as I type this message.

It rocks. And I'm pretty sure this phone and the ones to come will do battle with the iPhones.

If anyone is experiencing a fault with their phone, and it's still in warranty - common sense. Go get it repaired, especially if it is a 2 year contract.

It came from a tweet from an employee of Microsoft and he said that all phones will be upgraded to windows phone 8. However the tweet was pulled later, which led people to speculate and amongst other stuff, rumours started
lumia 800<3 glad I jumped ship from android. Much better and smoother, even though it lacks mountains of apps

    Re: Nokia Lumia 800
I was surprised how many Lumia owners there are on here. I got mine for free as I've worked on some of the smaller projects with Nokia in the past.

I've tried the HTC Mozart and HTC Titan, both are both inferior in aesthetics and specification when compared to the Lumia.

Most Windows Phone devices cluster around the same area, usually a 1Ghz or a 1.4Ghz CPU, 8GB of storage, with no additional way to increase capacity (because of OS restrictions). A 5MP or 8MP camera and most either have between 512mb and 1GB of Ram.

The Lumia has an superior screen to the rest of the offerings (the 900), Gorilla Glass (again unlike the rest of the bunch), 16GB of storage, which is higher than the offerings of Samsung and HTC (besides one other device). It does lack a front facing camera, that the Titan II has, or the Lumia 900 - but it's not a significant missing feature.
