What are the best headphones for noise cancelling and isolation
Basically all in the title. I really want to buy pair of headphones but I want them to stop me hearing noise i.e people talking and for people I might be around not to hear my music and I really want them to be headphones not earphones. Any ideas greatly appreciated!!

Re: What are the best headphones for noise cancelling and isolation
I have Sennheiser's and they're really good. They sound really good and cancel a lot of noise (sometimes I can't hear my Mum call me for my tea
). Don't get Beats and stuff like that, they're a rip-off. Amazon has quite a lot of good headphones.

I've got some skullcandy fix in-ears, they're pretty good for noise cancelling as they fit really well - not the best quality though..
Sennheiser's are good, as are bose (can't remember if they still make any good ones) - especially if you're willing to pay £200 -

It really depends on what degree of isolation you want. The Sennheisers are phenomenal headphones regardless of situation, easily one of the most well regarded sets on the planet in terms of price/performance and they isolate very well for on-ears. However if you want to block out as much noise as possible, those Audio Technicas has active noise cancellation. Sound will be decent coming from Audio Technica, but bare in mind active noise cancellation degrades the audio regardless of who you buy from. I'd personally for the HD25s, isolation will be enough for the vast majority of situations. I'd only go for active noise cancellation if you will be consistently using them in extremely noisy environments and want to listen at low volumes. Otherwise the Sennheisers will suffice and sound twice as good. -

Re: What are the best headphones for noise cancelling and isolationI don't think the OP wants this thread derailed by me going on a tirade about Beats, so I won't go into it. But long story short, if you enjoy your Beats then that's great for you, but they don't deserve to be called the best for any kind of headphone, at all. You can get audibly superior headphones for less money, and you can get headphone with both superior audio and great aesthetics for a similar price.(Original post by Turkishee)
I've currently got my beats on - they work wonders, plus they look slick... Looks good in comparison to others on the market. -
Re: What are the best headphones for noise cancelling and isolationYet those excellent products aren't nearly as fashionable at beats.(Original post by Gofre)

Re: What are the best headphones for noise cancelling and isolationTempted by those Sennheisers but the cans don't look particularly big. Are they on-ear or over-ear? Just concerned with on-ear that they become uncomfortable after a while.(Original post by Gofre)

Re: What are the best headphones for noise cancelling and isolationThey are on ear, but they're very comfortable, some of the softest padding I've come across. I'd recommend checking the demo headphones in your local HMV. The two stores I have near me both have the HD25-1 II's younger brother, the HD25 SP, on display, which use the same cushions and driver housings as the one I mentioned above, but not the same headband or drivers. They'll give you an idea of how comfortable the cups are.(Original post by Colbert)

Re: What are the best headphones for noise cancelling and isolationI'd disagree, Beats have just become boring and generic now that everybody and their nan has them. Even if they did look worse, I'd take a less stylish pair that sound three times as good as Beats, as each of those headphones does. Each to their own when it comes to looks, I guess, but it boggles my mind when people buy headphones with fashion being the prime motivator.(Original post by Turkishee)
um yeah - Beats spank em. -
Re: What are the best headphones for noise cancelling and isolationDo you know any that look sturdier but still have the same quality?(Original post by Gofre)

Re: What are the best headphones for noise cancelling and isolationThe Audio Technicas, afraid not. For the Sennheisers, they don't get much sturdier, they're tanks. The design is extremely rugged and every part is user replaceable right down to the actual drivers, even the average user can dismantle the HD25 1-IIs in five minutes. I've heard some people refer to them as the AK47 of the headphone world(Original post by Butdidudie)
