Re: The Commons Bar Mk VIIt still is a brilliant song despite the cheese. The funniest thing about her Eurovision performance is the random retro 1990s computer monitors that aren't even switched on!

Re: The Commons Bar Mk VIThat's the sort of thing we need! The rest of Europe love cheese. I had forgotten about Alphabeat but they did have a few good songs a while back. Here's hoping the Fast Food Rockers regroup.

The amount of innuendo Scooch managed to get away with was brilliant. -

There's Europop and then there's camp pisstakes. Britain does the latter. -

Re: The Commons Bar Mk VIAnyone remember Cyndi? She might have flown our flag instead of Scooch that year. Undecided about which is the better song.

Re: The Commons Bar Mk VII would love us to win again at some point, but we do need to be more serious about it. It would be awesome to see Eurovision held in somewhere like the O2 - an amazing venue.

The reality is that for a long time we did take it quite seriously. For instance:
The intro stuff is in Dutch, alas, but look at the images of early 1990s Britain. Amazing how far we have developed in the last 20 years.
Both times we came second. -

Re: The Commons Bar Mk VIImaani from 1998 was also a great entry. Until we stop sending dross, we're not going to win. Jade Ewen and Andrew Lloyd Webber did well in 2009 because it was a great, powerful song.
I still have a soft spot for Love Shine a Light. -
Re: The Commons Bar Mk VIYeah. That whole year seemed like a completely different country was coming together. No more Tories, winning Eurovision with a cracker of a song, and the rise of true Britpop and various phenomena like Cwl Cymru. How naive we all were!(Original post by Birchington)
