Re: Edexcel Politics A2 Route AWe actually didn't do transport policy when I did this module.(Original post by sarahw)
Hi could anyone give me a little help with this question???
'Explain why transport policy has been controversial in recent years' (15 marks)
I would really appreciate this, thanks!
I could improvise on the following issues though:
-People pay taxes to fund public services. By paying taxes, they get free education, free healthcare, free policing, the elderly get benefits and pension schemes and environmental protection. However, despite public transport also being a public service, we still pay for it when we use it. We don't do this with any other public service, save for limited forms of NHS treatment (eye care and dental treatment). A prime example being buses. So in effect, it angers the general public because it would seem they pay twice for one service.
-The quality of public transport and how the public perceive it's quality as disproportionate to the taxes they pay for for it.
-The governments continual problem ensuring public transport complies with environmental policies. In particular, talk about the government initiative to introduce new airports contradicted there policies on making the UK a more environmentally friendly country. The airports threatened to damage crop fields and pollute the air with a greater amount of carbon gas.
-The never ending debate about public transport fee's and how they have have continued to increase in recent years, despite a perception that the standard of public transport has declined.
-Public transport worker wages
Hope this gives you some idea. Research these ideas using google.Last edited by Maicccccmannnn; 27-02-2012 at 16:40. -

Re: Edexcel Politics A2 Route AAh, nearly forgot!(Original post by sarahw)
OK thanks this has sparked a few ideas, thanks!
Big issue! The privatisation of public transport is a major topic. Talk about the benifits of privatisation v it's nationalisation and how each has conflicting interests. The UK has largely adopted a privatised public transport sector which has had both positive and negative implications. A little research will explain both. -
Re: Edexcel Politics A2 Route AWasn't too bad I don't think but Ill know for sure on thursday when the results come out. Funnily enough I pretty much ****ed up a really easy question on tuition fees which like people who dont even do politics could easily do because i structured it all wrong, it was only 15 marks though so its not the end of the world I guess.
If you haven't seen already the 45 were:
Prison is unsuccessful discuss .... congratulations for having a brilliant imagination for this question examiners
Something about green policy being controversial
The budget deficit reduction policy has gone too far discus - I did this one since I do economics so I had loads of knowledge.
We're doing Europe now and I just think its so boring and the textbook has so little good info.Last edited by Spunky_Monkey; 04-03-2012 at 14:37. -
Re: Edexcel Politics A2 Route ADiscuss the environmental policies of the current coalition. You need to state all of the environmental policies they have.(Original post by sarahw)
Hi can I possibly have a bit of help with this?
'To what extent has the coalition government been ‘The greenest government ever’? (45 marks)
Thanks
Analyse them in comparison to previous environmental policies of previous governments. Highlight where they expand and improve upon previous policies, and where they restrict or fail to expand upon previous policies. -
Re: Edexcel Politics A2 Route A
Hey could anyone help me with this I'm really stuck!
To what extent does a Common Foreign and Security Policy exist in the EU? (45 marks)
My teacher has told me to split it into 4 sections:
the good neighbours scheme
humanitarian
peace keeping/intervention
act as a counter balance to the US and China.
But i'm reallly stuck -
Re: Edexcel Politics A2 Route A
Need some help. I've for each section, welfare, environment and law and order I've been covering what the Conservative, Labour and LibCon coalition policies have done. Did I make a mistake in doing this? Because I think they'll only ask about Labour and LibCon, not really the Conservative Thatcher or Major government's reforms...
So should I just be focusing on what Labour did and what LibCon are doing? -
Re: Edexcel Politics A2 Route AThey won't ask a question on actual Labour policy from when they were in govt, but you need to know for comparison against coalition policy. This is also the same for anything conservative before 1997, although this is far less important (don't waste time remembering any figures from this period). They could ask a question on how green the coalition where it you need to know both conservative and lib dem ideology and manifestos to evaluate the policy and which party is more instrumental in specific areas.(Original post by FullMetalX)

Now the coalitions been in for a while they will definitely ask most of their questions directly on it, in my january unit 3 most were! -
Re: Edexcel Politics A2 Route AThanks for clearing that up! I feel like such an idiot, I wasted so much time covering Conservative and Labour policy in so much detail when I could of done something useful.(Original post by Spunky_Monkey)

Re: Edexcel Politics A2 Route AYeah still to coalition and opposition policy (what there is of it) and you can't go wrong. For law and order it might be useful to look at fringe parties as well, or at least be aware of general ideology to use for comparison or conclusion.(Original post by FullMetalX)

Re: Edexcel Politics A2 Route ADid you do well in your exam? Which topics did you focus on? I'm just going to ignore economy, it's too much of a headache. Up till now, I've used that Neil McNaughton book, I tried to learn all the stuff in the book for the topics I was doing. But I guess I didn't have to(Original post by Spunky_Monkey)

Guess it takes a lot of pressure off though, and I'll try to finish covering all of Unit 3 this week.

I do economics as well so that section was actually my favourite and that was my 45 marker but if you don't really have a solid base in macro economics then the sections not great to do.
I personally think don't even bother with the text book, you know your ideologies since you have gone through all the old stuff and just go through all the recent policy and issues that have come up which could be asked about. For example to what extent are the conservative party still green, how successful have welfare reforms been under the coalition. -
Re: Edexcel Politics A2 Route AAh, well done on the 90/100 :] did you request your paper back or something? I did economics for AS but I don't really like it. Thanks for the advice(Original post by Spunky_Monkey)
