How dangerous is London??
Hopefully starting in september i will be studying at Surrey uni.
During my time there, as it is so close to London i am hoping to do some exploring - shopping, gigs ect
However, i don't know London area at all....how dangerous would you say it actually is (including the trains)? -
Re: How dangerous is London??
Like the above poster mentioned, expect prices to be much higher for just about anything except supermarkets.
Central London is fine, there are a couple of boroughs to stay out of if you're 'worried', but having been to them there's nothing really wrong there either, unless you're looking for trouble or being a stupid, drunk fool. Gigs are generally in those 'worrying' areas though, Brixton/Islington academies and Camden Barfly/Koko spring to mind.
Basically act the way you would as a tourist in any city - keep hold of your belongings and don't explore new places in the dark. Unless you're incredibly unlucky and in the wrong place at the wrong time, you'll be totally fine. -
Re: How dangerous is London??Depends on the area of Hackney these days. Dalston, Stokey and Shoreditch are lame hipster territory now and are almost harmless.(Original post by walterwhite123)
Like any big city it has good and bad parts. If you start wandering around Hackney at midnight you might find some trouble, but if you are sensible you should be fine.
More likely to get mugged in Camden, Peckham, Brixton and Soho at midnight.
London is alright just don't walk around flashing the gadgets and don't attract attention. Same as most places you're not familiar with. -
Re: How dangerous is London??
London is massively different depending on where you are. Central is very touristy, with the big shops and rip off clubs etc. South West area is lovely with other bars and clubs that will be less touristy (Richmond, Wimbledon, Putney, Fulham etc) I don't go to North and East London much, but yeah like others have said as long as you're sensible then it's fine.

Re: How dangerous is London??Yeah, Hackney was just the first place i thought of. I've walked through Brixton in the dead of night and been ok.(Original post by I<3LAMP)

Re: How dangerous is London??Yeah people think London is a big ol' scary place but realistically it has dickheads like the rest of the UK (& world).(Original post by walterwhite123)

Re: How dangerous is London??
London can be more dangerous than any corrupt country in Eastern Europe.
Worst of all, police don't care if you call them and say someone tried to stab you. If you call the police twice for having been attacked, they threaten to sue you!
And there's the drug scene, and many aggressive and uneducated offspring of immigrants, as well as gay people discriminating against Christians.
If you want to join my vigilante club and beat up drunkards and drug addicts on Saturday night, please contact me via PM. -

Re: How dangerous is London??
London's fine overall, so long as you don't hang around random council estates in the middle of the night or something. Most of the main clubbing / shopping areas and central London are pretty safe, as in you won't get stabbed unless something really weird happens. You might get pick pocketed, though, so just keep your eye on your bag (although that shouldn't really be a surprise). On the whole, though, just don't do anything stupid or reckless and you'll be fine.

Re: How dangerous is London??
londons not bad at all, i've lived in east london for all of my life(19yrs), and i live about 3 roads from a 'gang'.I haven't had any problems for around 3 years now, and thats with me going out several times a week at night. im at uni in leeds and if anything i think its a lot worse in leeds than it is in london.
I've never witnessed any trouble on a train, apart from the odd argument or something, the trains are always too busy and there are cameras so no one would try anything. If anything the only dodgy form of transport are nightbuses, where you get the occassional guy who is too drunk, and in some cases youths, but thats only if you're around certain areas, i.e hackney, brixton. I've taken a nightbus 100's of times after a night out, and i've only ever had a problem like once or twice. Just keep yourself to yourself, don't attract unneccessary attention at night, and if you see a group of hoodies/dodgy people do not cross the road, just walk straight past them with your head down.
This may sound a bit wrong/stereotypical, but on several recent(ish) occassions when i've been confronted by a hooded guy at night in a dodgy area or something the best thing to do is ask if he sells any weed or something, and on occasions they do, and will take your number rather than your phone, believe me it has worked for me the past 3 times theres been a dodgy guy come up to me.
