    Resolution 2012/04 - Concerning the Situation in North Korea
    The following resolution has been voted on in the Security Council but failed because it was vetoed by the representative for India. The General Assembly will now vote one more time to see if it agree's with the resolution (vote yes) or if it agree's with the veto (vote no.)

    Resolution 2012/04 - Concerning the Situation in North Korea

    Committee: Security Council
    Submitted By: Japan; the United States of America; the Republic of Korea

    Concerned that North Korea's proposed satellite launch is, in fact, a cover for a long-range missile test;
    Noting that other states are of the same opinion, including South Korea, Russia and the USA, as well as North Korea's ally China;
    Alarmed by North Korea's repeated refusal to begin talks about the circumstances of the launch in a diplomatic manner, despite international opinion being weighed against them;
    Remembering that the food parcels from the US have ceased due to the situation;
    Worried that these tests and North Korea's refusals to co-operate are a threat to stability.

    1.Condemns North Korea's ignorance of the international community's opinion on the matter;
    2.Calls that the proposed operation to be ceased immediately;
    3.Summons North Korea to discuss the matter with the international community openly, with particular dialogue being given to Japan, South Korea, Russia, China and the US;
    4.Reminding North Korea that food parcels from the US have stopped due to the situation, and that it is in its people's interests to comply with these terms;
    5.Agrees to re-assess the situation after said talks have finished.

    Since no more debate is required I will kick off the debate straight away, the vote will last for three days.

    Original GA debate and vote:

    [ooc] I know it's a pain voting on this again and it's my own fault for doing it the wrong way round, both bills really should have gone to the SC first. So it's my fault and I apologise. [/ooc]

    Iran respects the sovereign right of North Korea to develop it's military capability how it sees fit. Iran has suffered similar attempts to destabilise it's military testing programme, and stands firmly behind the DPRK.

    Indonesia considers North Korea's actions to be highly damaging to regional security, and welcomes this Resolution.

    India believes that North Korea is being unfairly persecuted for holding different ideals to the USA and other more mainstream nations.

    Tunisia believes that whilst north korea should not be conceealing their intentions, they have a right to defend themselves and as much a right to these weapons as western countries do. Therefore Tunisia will abstain from this vote.
