    Resolution 2012/03 - Concerning the Situation in Syria
    The following resolution has been voted on in the Security Council but failed because it was vetoed by the representative for the Russian Federation. The General Assembly will now vote one more time to see if it agree's with the resolution (vote yes) or if it agree's with the veto (vote no.)

    Resolution 2012/03 - Concerning the Situation in Syria

    Committee: Security Council
    Submitted by: Japan; Finland

    Expressing grave concern at the continued deterioration of the situation in Syria;
    Saddened by the loss of thousands of lives;
    Alarmed by the ignorance of the Syrian Authorites in ways pf peace and diplomacy;
    Aware that stability in Syria will play a major role in the stability and peace in the surrounding region;
    Noting the Syrian Authorites repeated call that they are in control of the situation, unfortunately false;
    Hopes that this resolution shall bring peace forth.

    1. Condemns the widespread abuse of human rights and mass killings by the Syrian Authorities, such as the use of violence against civilians, arbitrary and unjustifiable executions, persecution and killings of peaceful protestors and journalists, interception or refusal to let medical supplies go through to those injured, torture, sexual abuse and general mistreatment, some of which against children.
    2. Calls upon the Syrian Government to bring an end to said abuses of human rights;
    3. Enforces the fact that all found guilty of said abuses will be held accountable for their actions;
    4. Asks that all armed parties bring an immediate end to the violence, and put down their arms in the interests of peace;
    5. Calls for the immediate release of all those that were wrongly convicted;
    6. Endorses the full and unrestricted access of peaceful observer missions, such as that of the Red Cross, and other humanitarian missions;
    7. Requests the international community to recognise the Syrian National Council as the legitimate authority over Syria;
    8. Calls on all states who acknowledge and promote the existence of human rights and who desire a stop to the violence in place of peace and stability to support this resolution, and pressure all parties to comply with the conditions concerning them, and to ensure that all who do not follow their conditions to be held responsible and dealt with in a suitable manner.

    Since no more debate is required I will kick off the debate straight away, the vote will last for three days.

    [ooc] I know it's a pain voting on this again and it's my own fault for doing it the wrong way round, both bills really should have gone to the SC first. So it's my fault and I apologise. [/ooc]

    Iran objects to this defence of the terrorists attempting to illegitimately depose and destabilise our great ally, Bashar al Assad. President Assad is entitled to defend the sovereign state he leads by any means possible.

    Indonesia welcomes this Resolution. The UN must work together to protect the Syrian people, who are suffering from these terrible atrocities that breach the most fundamental laws on human rights.
