My 2 cents on Kent Accomodation
Hey guys, going into my 3rd year at UKC now just thought I'd share my experience with campus accommodation in my first year.
I lived in Parkwood flats; they were nice and all but I believe they lacked the social advantages of the parkwood housing. I went to uni thinking having an en suite was important, sure it was nice - but from my experience it was NO WAY near worth the extra you pay.
If I was to re do it, I would definitely go for the houses rather than flats - the extra money would have been really helpful! -

Hey there,
I have applied for Parkwood flats as my first choice. How do they lack the social advantages that the housing offers? I have heard Parkwood in general is a great place to live in your first year as you socialise so much, however I have heard the flats in particular are great for this.
In your experience, how would you compare the Parkwood flats to the other 'halls' accommodation in terms of socialising and partying?
Thanks!Last edited by Ashmanyeah; 01-05-2012 at 20:36. -
Re: My 2 cents on Kent Accomodation
Parkwood was definitely the place to be in my opinion, the only place that may have rivalled it would be Darwin...
There are always people about in the houses, and as they are more open than the flats you really get to know your neighbours and court! The flats however are a bit "closed off" in my opinion... My housemates weren't too social, one didnt speak english, another never left his room and the other two had nothing in common between me and this other guy. We became friends with a bunch from the houses round the corner and really integrated socially into that court...it was brilliant!
Just my opinion
And the houses are cheaper!

Fair enough, you have a valid point.
I have superior houses as my second choice, and then tyler C, which I am kind of regretting putting down now, so I hope I don't get it! I am really unsure however about living in a house for my first year. I am anxious that I may not get the 'uni experience' I have been anticipating for so long because it might just feel like living at home and be 'too homey' if you get where I am coming from?
I would have thought it would have been easier for the people in flats to socialise as everyone is concentrated into such a small area.
Thanks for your time! -

Oh the houses aren't homely like that! They are just like the flats with the rooms across 2 floors instead of down a corridor!
And I don't really know, there are 2 halls per level, and 6 per block... but they are all behind a locked door etc so in my opinion the houses just seemed more open to a kind of "community". Tyler is nice, right on campus - but lacks the parkwood atmosphere! -

Hey,
I applied for Park wood houses, simply because I could not afford to live in flats; and even if I could, I don't think I would. You have to pay a lot of extra money and I'd rather buy a dress or a pair of new shoes for that extra money people spend on living in flats.
And the houses are cheaper!
