Re: UK ISPs ordered to block The Pirate BayHmm.. I know of people that bypass some of the BBC restrictions for streaming via a VPN.(Original post by de_monies)
What VPN service do you use? There seem to be many out there, but a lot only give you like 2Mb or so. It'd be nice to get one that does 20Mb+ and stick the configuration on the router, though then of course there's the issue of iplayer -
Re: UK ISPs ordered to block The Pirate BaySame here damn what I'm gonna do without piratebay.(Original post by singh224)

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
can easily get through this lol don't even need a proxy :P -
Re: UK ISPs ordered to block The Pirate Bay
I illegally download television shows that come on in USA before they reach us here (Dexter, Walking Dead, Homeland), which I then buy on DVD when it comes out.
However, I suspect most pirates don't do that, so I can understand the resistance to The Pirate Bay etc.
I think that it would be good if people who still fund the industry didn't get hurt. So if the programmes were on in UK soon after US (rather than months and months ahead), there'd be no excuse. Or if they let go on the need to have it on TV first, and brought out the DVDs as soon as the series ended (see Homeland - series 1 has the DVD coming out a year after the series - a day after series 2 begins). This way they'd get more money out of me, as I tend to wait until the DVDs drop in price. This way I would buy them immediately at the high price, and wouldn't bother to pirate!
They are trying to take control by legislation, which is understandable, but will not work. They have to change their business model. For example - PC gaming takes a massive hit from piracy, but Steam is convenient, so has a large number of users. Make it more convenient to pay than not pay. Don't be seen as a bully, or people won't pay out of principle. -

Re: UK ISPs ordered to block The Pirate Bay
Still works on my mobile Internet, via Opera Mini and all the various proxy sites. Their implementation of Magnet links means it is trackerless and the block becomes useless in that regard. Then there are the thousands of other torrent sites + forums hosting numerous direct download links.
How are the judges/prosecutors still so clueless about the Internet?
I really find it hard to believe they are so ignorant that they actually think this will make any difference.

Re: UK ISPs ordered to block The Pirate BayThe only way I see it to work is to use a free UK proxy whilst still using a VPN service, or for a more seamless setup, I suppose you could get two routers on two different subnets - with the int'l VPN on one router, and the second router configured normally, where if you wish to use the iplayer service, you connect to that part of your network, but otherwise you connect to the VPN router.(Original post by f1mad)
Hmm.. I know of people that bypass some of the BBC restrictions for streaming via a VPN.
In my head, that seems to work but not sure if that would actually work properly irl -
Re: UK ISPs ordered to block The Pirate BayYou have heard of adverts right?(Original post by Aj12)
"Its operators line their pockets by commercially exploiting music and other creative works without paying a penny to the people who created them.
Yes providing these things for free is really lining their pockets... -
Re: UK ISPs ordered to block The Pirate Bay
It's funny, because ThePirateBay actually support independent artists through providing them with publicity on their home page, among other promotions. It would seem that this order of action all boils down to the government acting in favour of corporate interests (as usual...).

Re: UK ISPs ordered to block The Pirate Bay
in ireland eircom blocked the pirate bay ages ago ( so mean of them ) upc allows it as far as i know ... but like in the comments above me you work around it and find other sites .. just the way the cookie crumbles
i dont want devalue the hard work that goes into making movies and albums etc but if people can get something for free they will instead of buying it ( lots buy it still though ) cause lets face it not everyone can afford everything they want .. i duno what point im trying to make but there is always a little bit of give and take. maybe in years to come there will be a total reform or its just my brain at 1am -

Re: UK ISPs ordered to block The Pirate BayYeah and when this issue was raised during tpb trial they pointed out that they weren't making much profit. The prosecution claimed one thing and the defence another.(Original post by suggsina)
