Re: Kent Uni 2012 Postgraduates!
It will take some more weeks.
"We will allocate students to rooms during late August / early September or during December 2012 for January 2013 entrants. Offers of accommodation are subject to availability and entry conditions, and you will receive an email advising where you can view and accept the offer of accommodation." :-(
I also tend to get very nervous as time goes by and 15th September is approaching, but at least they have enough rooms so we don't have to worry. Well, that's what they told me 2 weeks ago...
cinnamon, the huge bed is of course much better. I now have a bed the same size, and I know I will miss it. I stretch across the whole bed as much as possible for the time remaining ;-) When you come from outside UK, you first have to get used to the accomodation prices, so I chose the smaller room.Last edited by déjà-vu; 30-07-2012 at 14:15. -
Re: Kent Uni 2012 Postgraduates!
Hi everyone,
I'm doing an MSc in Forensic Psychology in September. Just submitted my application for Woolf College, but concerned as some of you thought you were submitting late and you got yours in ages ago! I thought I'd be okay, given today's deadline, but am now worried
Had a quick browse on here before submitting the application to see if anyone had any tips for special requests for Woolf Rooms...was good to read all your comments, so I just signed up.
FeathersSil, thanks for asking the important questions about social events and spiders! You're on my wavelength! And thanks to the current Woolf occupants for providing answers.
Will we get Fresher's Week, given that we are postgrads? Or is it just the toned down version that they call Welcome Week?

Re: Kent Uni 2012 Postgraduates!
Hey everyone!

Im joining MA Social Anthropology course in September (originally applied to Anthropology of ethnicity, nationalism and identity but they didn't get enough applications to run the course, so I was offered to join Soc.Anth).
Anyone else?
Oh and I also applied to Woolf, but I was soooooo late with my application that I hope there is still some place left for me.
cheers,
Baiba -

Re: Kent Uni 2012 Postgraduates
Will they at least tell us move in date and timetable for the start of freshers' week in good time? I need to book train tickets and that's going to get more expensive the closer to time we get . . .
He has been told he starts on the 17th September for a welcome week/get to know your course and preliminary activities. -
Re: Kent Uni 2012 Postgraduates!
Moving In Weekend is the 15th/16th September and Welcome Week begins on the 17th officially, though there are events on the Saturday and Sunday of Moving in Weekend too. Postgrads do have a welcome week timetable consisting of movie nights, board game nights, quiz nights, a pub crawl and a town tour (at least, this is what it was last year so I'd imagine it'd be roughly the same thing) but you're welcome to join in on any of the undergraduate freshers events too. Those are more focused on the bars, nightclub and drinking if you prefer that sort of thing. Saturday 17th is Neon Hall Wars, I believe, where all students dress up in the colour of their college and go and take part in games in the Venue. Woolf is purple.
You'll get a printed timetable of all events when you move in, and there will be Welcome Helpers helping you move stuff in and also around campus to answer any questions and point you in the right direction. There is a Freshers Fayre on Thursday 20th September where you'll be able to sign up for societies too. I urge you all to come and join mine, InQuire, the student newspaper.

Re: Kent Uni 2012 Postgraduates! Is it the joint degree programme offered by Kent and Marburg? I will join in conflict analysis programme this September.(Original post by k.nelson09)
I'll be coming to Kent to do Peace and Conflict Studies
I'm not sure about accommodation though. I don't think I get to stay in Woolf College because my course ends in June. Such a shame as well! It looks really nice.

And nice to meet you!
Actually I applied for your programme, unfortunately it is full. So Kent offered me a place in conflict analysis. Same syllabus, but two years in Canterbury.

Re: Kent Uni 2012 Postgraduates!
Hi

I'm going to be doing MSc Forensic Psychology and applied for Woolf college en quite in April!
Haven't heard anything since April from the accomodation office,
I read that emails have been sent out since yesturday. Eugh I hope I get mine soon the suspense is killing me!
I have a question for Cinnamon if they're still knocking around, or anyone who's stayed at Woolf really!
I heard theres no car parking for students, well my mum and dad are driving all the way from Liverpool with me and my stuff to move me in, are there like, moving bays or something?
Also I read that 'personal electronic items' aren't allowed, I read on the accomodation page that Woolf college kitchens don't have a toaster, and I need a toaster! Do you reckon I could sneak one in? I also want to bring my sewing machine too, although that'd be a bit difficult to hide :/
Thanks! -
Re: Kent Uni 2012 Postgraduates!
Ah okay, in the accomodation handbook it says:
"Additional cooking appliances are
permitted in kitchens in self-catered
accommodation only (Darwin, Tyler
Court, Woolf, Keynes flats and
houses, Park Wood flats and houses)
and MUST NOT be used in study
bedrooms or corridors at any time
(this applies to all such equipment
including toasters and kettles)."
Okay, phew!
It also says though:
"Residents are not permitted to install
additional furniture or electrical
appliances in rooms or communal
areas within the accommodation
because of safety, space and other
legal restrictions"
I wonder what this counts as?

. Does anyone know anyone else looking for a housemate?
