    Anyone taking A-level Maths?
Hey guys, so this is like a follow up from a previous thread I posted...
Basically, I'm in my final year of GCSE's and I don't know if I should do A-level Maths. Out of interest I wanted to find out from people who are already taking it:
    1. What was your GCSE grade?
    2. Is A-level Maths hard?
    3. And what are you predicted to get at the end?

    Thanks

Heyy I got a B at GCSE, but remember it is a huge step up from GCSE level as with all A levels.
Well, all A levels are not exactly easy but personally I think you should see whether maths is required to learn for further study, like at degree level. If it is not then you should consider whether you want to take it. It all depends on if you want to go to uni after what do you want to study?
    And I was predicted a B

    Hi there!

I do A level further maths. I did A level maths last year. My GCSE grade was an A star. Maths is hard but if you are willing to put in the effort the reward will be amazing. You must be enthusiastic and seek help whenever you get stuck. If you get it sorted out super early you'll be better prepared for the exams.

I still have to resit my A2 maths exams. I got an A in AS maths. So naturally, my prediction is A overall for the whole A level.

    1. A*
    2. You'd find it hard with less than a B at GCSE
    3. A*, A* (I'm doing further maths)

Really, though I'd recommend you do it - I wasn't overly keen on maths before I started the A Level course, and now I love it to bits; certainly further maths is difficult, but that just adds to the fun (yeah, sounding really nerdy here). Nearly everyone else I know who takes maths would choose it as their favourite subject. The A Level course is great; the only reason why more people don't take it at uni, I think, is the opportunity to do more applied study in other areas is great, as well as the fact that many don't fancy being a professional 'brainbox' and would rather do something more 'arty' (for instance Biology )

    1. A
    2. Personally, I don't think it's HARD, but it does require a lot of work for some people (like me) to do well.
    3. I got a C at AS, but am now on course for an A or A*.

Thanks for the feedback Well at the moment i'm acheiving an A* in GCSE Maths and I really love the subject. However, a lot of people lately have been discouraging me by saying is really difficult. I think i'm pretty certain that I will be taking Maths for A-levels now, I want to study dentistry so I think if I got an A then I'll have a good chance of getting into uni.

Yeah, A-level maths is pretty hard, but it's definitely possible to get a good grade when you put in the effort.
Haven't got A2 predictions yet, but I'm predicted an A for AS, and got full UMS in my stats exam in January!

    1. What was your GCSE grade? A*

    2. Is A-level Maths hard?
It takes a while to get used to, and it does seem incredibely hard at first - but trust me, it gets easier and its worth taking.
As said above, as long as you put in the effort and make sure you revise it as you go along it won't seem all that bad.

    3. And what are you predicted to get at the end?
Predicted a B for AS, but got an A in the first unit so aiming for an A overall.

    1) A*, I wouldn't recommend taking it if you get a B or below (B grade students in my class typically got grade D/E in C1, the first module).
    2) Right now I am an AS student doing Maths and Further Maths. I find both challenging, but naturally FM more so. It does require quite a large amount of effort on your part, as you have do a lot of practice to get the hang of certain question types. However, this is based on my own experience which I must add is with an AWFUL maths teacher (even though my FM teachers are brilliant), who fails to explain most topics properly.
    3) A, A (AS predictions)

As hcam posted, don't ever hesitate to get help if you need it, you are doing yourself a great favour. There is nothing worse than sitting in the classroom not understanding a thing that is going on!

I find maths really enjoyable and, even though this is kind of cliche, has honestly improved my problem solving skills. I loved maths at GCSE and I still love it now. Good luck with your exams, and even if it doesn't go as you hoped, don't give up hope; I came out of my first GCSE maths paper crying my eyes out, thinking I'd messed it up, and still came out with the grade I needed (to take FM).

Edit: Anonymous neggers, care to explain why? I politely gave my own account of my experience with maths at the sixth form I go to (I did say based on personal experience) and really didn't want to offend at all. Genuinely tried to post constructive advice :/

    1. A*

    2. It is somewhat hard but all it needs is a bit of work and a lot of practice (especially if it's something you don't get.) I would definitely say that enjoying it helps a lot too It's all about what you put into it

    3. B in AS, A in A2.

I got an A* at GCSE and am predicted an A* for A2. If you're working at an A* already at GCSE then you should be fine with AS maths, it gets a lot harder though in A2, particularly in the last module.

I disagree. C4 is no harder than C3. The real jump is between C2 and C3.

Just talk to your maths teacher. They'll be able to say whether you'd be okay with it merely based of your work ethic as much as ability.

    Re: Anyone taking A-level Maths?
    Hi,

I got an A at GCSE, and got an A* in normal maths, whilst on for an A* in further.

I think the important thing is to learn whilst you go along... it sounds obvious but I for one did not 'progressively' learn, and meant I was cramming before the exam which sucks. Otherwise, if you can just make the connections between topics it's most certainly do-able, and enjoyable I might add... My favourite subject by far. I wouldn't be put off by others saying it's hard, as with anything, if you don't make the effort then of course you're going to struggle. Hope this helps, and I would do it as you seem keen on it
