These are just everyday speakers for my for my room, so nothing too hi tech and expensive.

I was also wondering if I could buy wireless speakers?

Richer Sounds is always a good site for speakers, catering to a lot of different price points. Regarding wireless speakers, it depends. They're obviously convenient, but they're disproportionately expensive and depending on how critical a listener you are, sound quality is always going to undergo some kind of degradation over a wireless connection. It's not something casual users will notice though [=

I'm not really sure about budget.. say less than £90.

I mainly listen to music such as The Smiths, The Beatles, Pulp and also alot of acoustic stuff.. so pop/rock.

You can try the Harman Kardon SoundSticks II from Richer Sounds which is £10 over budget but provide a pretty sound for the price although some people complain about the bass and sometimes the mids (the mids probably going to be the part that will affect your sound quality). I would wait to see what other people have to say on that model because I am dubious myself. But, having not owned them, I cannot say whether they're any good.

There are other speaker systems out there but the ones I'm looking for have gone out of circulation a long time ago.

They are pretty good ones, they've got very good sound quality with no distortion on higher volumes and good value for money, but they have no independant volume control and you cant turn off the glow unless theyre off....

I'd stay away from wireless speakers. As others have said to get the same quality they're going to cost a lot more than normal wired speakers.

The next thing you might want to consider is how many speakers you want and what size. The standard now is to have 2.1 so two small stereo speakers (the 2) and a larger sub (the .1). The smaller speakers in 2.1 (and 5.1) systems tend to struggle with lower frequencies.

Some people prefer to just run stereo with two larger speaker cabinets. A decent speaker cabinet is likely to have two drivers in (on for higher frequencies and one for lower) which can give a better sound. However with that setup you're likely to need a separate amplifier. This is closer to the more traditional HiFi setup.

Going to somewhere like Richer sounds for a new system is worth it. They should have some knowledgeable staff and also give you the chance to try things out with your music. If you're looking for a more traditional setup you might find some good bargains in the 2nd hand market - (2nd hand shops or places like ebay)

If I were you I would stay away from PC speakers and go down the HiFi route. Gumtree is a good bet (I've bought a load of separate kit from there in the past) because older kit depreciates really quickly. You'll need a stereo integrated amp, at least 2 HiFi speakers, an RCA-3.5mm Jack interconnect and some speaker wire. You could easily piece something together within your budget
