As a male, how do I stop myself becoming more vein everyday?
Well I use to be a scruffy lad who was not too bothered on appearance but now I am becoming more obsessive on appearance. Everyday I am looking at myself more on reflections off shop windows, spending more time dressing up, spending longer to shop for clothes, having a wider range of clothing in my wardrobe everyday. How do I stop this obsession from controlling my life as it seems it is going that way. I have a male mate who is a metrosexual who although people appreciate what he does to his appearance, I know him well enough to know he has a lot of insecurities about himself. I do not want all the insecurities that comes with this baggage. I would rather spend my time doing constructive things with my life, well at the end of the day we all going to get old anyway. Any other guys going through the same phase?

Re: As a male, how do I stop myself becoming more vein everyday?
Dunno if this is true for most guys but I don't tend to spend a lot of time worrying about my appearance. I usually get out of bed, have a shower, shave (which for some reason I actually kind of enjoy doing, it feels kind of cool). Then I look at the mirror, smile at it, check myself out and somehow think yeaheheh I'm pretty good looking
. Then I kind of mess up my hair a bit so it doesn't look too neat (which I don't like), and go to uni. Been doing the same thing for most of my life.
Think the trick is to be comfortable in seeing your appearance. I don't think I'm that good looking most likely, but when I see myself smiling in the mirror it's hard to not be ok with my reflection. Because ugly or not a person smiling in the mirror looks warm and inviting. It's difficult to find a smile ugly. And I try and keep up that smile for entire day. Not particularly hard for me seeing me smiling is actually my natural pose (which might be a little weird I dunno), but smiling a bit more especially around others might help.
Instead of focusing on your wardrobe, why not focus on just smiling more. Heck you'll probably even seem more attractive (I think anyway). Even if people don't find you more attractive, they'll warm up to you more, and you'll feel better during the day and better about yourself. Cos at the end of the day people aren't looking at the clothes you're wearing much, but the expressions that are etched on your face throughout the day. Most of the time I can't even remember what a person was wearing when I met them yesterday (or even earlier on in the day). What I remember is briefly what we talked about, that person's general mood and whether that person smiled or laughed a lot. -

Re: As a male, how do I stop myself becoming more vein everyday? You not worry that you'll become too warm that people could start manipulating you? I'm in two ideas of this... One.... smile conitinuously becuase other people look better smiling or never show emotion because then people can't manipulate me..... Oh wait this was off topic...(Original post by LemonLizards)

OP just dress smart and be done with it. The only reason it takes me over an hour to get ready is because (it doesn't, shower + getting dressed is no more than 30 minutes) I just liked to spend 30 minutes browsing the internet which makes it seem longer than what it actually does. Nothing wrong with that my friend.
Have a shower, get dried, get dressed, browse internet for half hour, then do your hair and be gone... Simples. -
Re: As a male, how do I stop myself becoming more vein everyday?Dunno about manipulation. But smiling makes me feel better. And generally it's worth the trade off. Rather warm up to people and have them warm up to me. If that means I'm gonna be manipulated some times I don't mind. Personally I don't think I've been manipulated a lot. Maybe a few times. But ultimately it's down to you whether you chose to be manipulated or not. If you feel you're getting manipulated, shut down contact with that person or tell them off/air your views about it.(Original post by Jordyy)
