Re: The Israeli Society(Baruch Ha Baim)Probably...its just people assuming tht just because the israeli governmebt acts in certain ways and the palestinians act in certain ways such as hamas etc, they think ALL israelis, jews, pals, muslims or etc are like tht...(Original post by Matthew12)
Why's that is that because of the whole Israeli-Palestine conflict
Now im not jewish or israeli, in fact im muslim but I have some lovely jewish friends (british born tho)..n I dnt stereotype...but going off topic, I came here because you said your israeli and tht mean you can speak hebrew...and as I love languages, and the two I am most obsessed with currently nd learning are Portuguese and Hebrew...;-)
Itd b cool to know sum catchphrases and day to day idioms of hebrew :-P -

Re: The Israeli Society(Baruch Ha Baim)
Thanks, gonna be useful...when I go to israel..not in near future though, lol, with all the religious/political tensions etc I think only certain people get in(think they even banned poet Geunter Grass)....but I always wanted to see some famous landmarks there.....by sabra, do you mean like native israeli?
I can read arabic, not understand it, dont you think, despite the script, its actually quite similat to hebrew? An btw, ivrit script, I dont know if its just me,looks quite similar with Hindi sceipt.
U kno the way they recite the torah in melodious singing voices, its so beautiful, reminds me, just like recital (tilawat) of the quran in arabic- do u find the hebrew of torah is harder to understand, since its older language, compared to todays speaking language- because its like that for arabic, (example, shakespeares in english, but english speakers need to decipher the meanings of the language, trust me, we studied Romeo n juliet two years in a row lol) :-) x -

1. Yes Sabra means a native Israeli
2. Yes Ivrit is quite similar to Arabic and it is expected to be since they are both semitic languages
3. The Hebrew of the Torah(The Written Torah) i would say is fairly easy to understand i would say i understand at least 85% of it in Hebrew. However the Oral Torah(Mishnah) written in Mishnaic Hebrew is quite hard. -
Re: The Israeli Society(Baruch Ha Baim)3. The Mishnah is a mixture of Aramaic and Hebrew, it is not Mishnaic Hebrew fyi(Original post by Matthew12)

Re: The Israeli Society(Baruch Ha Baim)There's no Aramaic in the Mishnah its purely written in Rabbinic Hebrew(Original post by A128)

Re: The Israeli Society(Baruch Ha Baim)Oh yeah sorry you are correct the Mishnah is purely hebrew. However, the oral Torah I meant to say which includes the Gemorah is part Aramaic.(Original post by Matthew12)
There's no Aramaic in the Mishnah its purely written in Rabbinic Hebrew
