Hi, I was going to ask the same question really?

I have some guesses as to what the DME might be on, such as alcohol pricing, child benefit etc. But, does anyone know any good HIGHER sites for background knowledge about wealth and health issues which you could use?

    Thanks

For those people saying that question A4 could be on fptp and pr systems think twice! Because in previous years voting behaviour questions have come up twice then one fptp and pr system question. So if voting behaviour was last year and fptp was the year before then voting behaviour could come up again this year!!

    Stressing out....

So I'm doing my final essay plans for the B5 and B6 unit. Is there any point even learning anything about Collectivism and Individualism for an essay question since there was a question on it in last years paper? Yet, I do know that it is worth atleast reading over for the DME as there is always an opprtuinity to mention the view of a Collectivist or Indivudalist as background knowledge.

Fingers crossed it's voting behaviour! I'll probably get sent out the exam hall for screaming if I see an electoral systems question. But still, I do think the question will be on electoral systems. :emo:

I would say there is. You could bring in the idea of the Third Way/individualism/collectivism approach in the majority of B5/6 questions. And if there's a Founding Principles question then it'll definitely be handy!!

There was one of those in 2007, although it doesn't mean it won't come up this year, I think a two party question is more likely due to the current coalition situation
How would you answer a question like that? Would be totally thrown if they put in a question like that

My modern studies teacher went to the higher conference in the paisley town hall and she mentioned that they possibly hinted towards the exam question for electoral systems and voting behaviour and she said it could be does media shape or reflect public opinion? This could be true as if you look at past papers for this unit it is usually two year voting behaviour and 1 year electoral systems and its due to be voting behaviour again but I don't know what to study in case electoral systems comes up!!!!

Also, health and wealth question what is everyone thinking for health?!

I think you're best revising both voting behvaiour and electoral systems. To be honest, voting behvaiour has to be the easiest thing out of the whole Modern Studies course for me anyway. But to be on the safe side, I'm also going to be revising both.

For health and wealth I'm not sure. I'm thinking possibly a gender and ethnic inequalities question might appear as there's been one every 2 years. Last year it didn't come up, so this year it might.

For electoral systems, just get advantages and disadvanatges of fptp and specific pr systems e.g) Ams and single transferable vote, and how one can provide better representaion and more choice compared to the other one with a few examples and you should be fine

Seeing other people panicing makes me feel better

Haha, I'm not panicking all that much. Although I haven't really started revising electoral systems yet. I'm still trying to get my last essay plans typed up and then written out. :'(

So take FPTP and STV for example:

    -Intro
    -Advantages & disagvantages of FPTP
    -Advantages & disadvantaged of STV
    -Compare both
    -Conclusion

Is that how you would set that essay out? If not, how would you?

At that conference they pretty much covered all the areas in A4 and I wouldn't say they hinted towards anything because the speakers were basically just teachers and could have no idea what the question actually is this year - they are just looking at past paper patterns.

Health - they haven't asked anything about NHS in a while but I think I would be screwed if that question came up and have to rely on wealth.

So the wealth question will be on gender inequalities?!

I think it might be just fptp alone if its electoral systems as all the other ones have been asked?:/

See for the USA I think powers of the president is going to come due to it being the election?

My teacher said to put the disadvantage of FPTP, the advantage of the other PR system which tackles that disadvantage then the disadvantage of that! and do that 3 times

Yes, if the quesion was "fptp offeres better representation and more choice compared to Stv."

When you have talked about advantage of Fptp then you can do a little conclusion that "therefore it can be said that fptp offers good representation" and when you talk about disadvantage of fptp then you can do a little 1 line conclusion " Therefore it can be said that fptp may infact not provide more choice compared to Stv"

And just do same for Stv and say " However others may argue that infact Stv provides better representation and more choice compared to fptp because...."

Make sure to put in examples too not for every isngle advantage and disadvantage but the more you can put in the better the grade you will get.

Then just conclude and give your own opinion.

The question in the exam could be asking to compare fptp with Pr systems in general too, so you can talk about advantages and disadvanatges of other pr systems e.g.) AMS
