I've just emailed my qualifications off to Liverpool after ringing the admissions office. The don't accept applications until the previous degree is completed so I'll find out soon if I need to get any extra qualifications.

I still think I must be crazy!

Can you apply for graduate medicine with a 1st class psychology degree?

I really want to do medicine and alot of people are telling me that i should totally move on from the idea. I didn't do the correct Alevels in college or get the best grades.

    Thanks guys!
Yeah course you can. Warwick, for example, is a good place to consider providing you reach their UKCAT cut off score. Also Birmingham only accept first class degrees and psychology is on their list of suitable ones, though you might have to email them to see if they accept your particular psychology degree. Heres the birmingham website for more info on their graduate medicine programme: http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/students...rad-entry.aspx

There are more universities out there but you'll have to do your research as I can't remember them all from the top of my head.

If I'm not mistaken, I think all 5 year courses accept graduates with a min of a 2:1.

i was just wondering if anyone else was worried that they might be at a disadvantage because of their GCSE or Alevel grades, even though they might have a strong 2:i or 1st class degree

i am studying biomed. dunno what to do x x x

Graduate schemes often don't look at GCSE and A-level grades. Or they don't hold much importance. But every course is different, for example Bristol want 3 Bs at A-level, so it is worth checking.

I'm on biomed at the minute too Applying for grad med this year..

I'm a second time applicant, just graduated with a 1st in Biological Science from Uni of Liverpool. I've pretty much decided to apply to grad schools that don't require entry exams since I feel I did fairly crap on the UKCAT when I was 18, so Liverpool (first choice, I'd love to go back,) Birmingham and Bristol. Any tips at all for these schools would be appreciated! I've done a lot of research but will use all the help I can get to be honest.

A lot of people find they improve on the UKCAT on the second try, just bear that in mind. Congrats on your first

Thanks About the UKCAT, I know. I've considered it but to be honest, Liverpool would still be my first choice and I'd be more than happy with Birmingham as well, Bristol is pretty far but I'd still be grateful for the place. I think if I get knocked back again (God forbid) I'd maybe do the UKCAT next year to widen my choices.

Hi I've written around to universities for replies but not heard anything back. Getting nervous. Got a 2:1 in an Open Uni BSc. Reference might be an issue as OU can't write a personal reference but some tutors have said it would be ok to submit a referene from a professional supervisor (e.g. the Hospice I've been working at for 10 years) instead along with the transcript etc.

so far the ones who have replied and said yes (and I want to apply to); Cambridge (Hughes Hall), King's, St George's still to hear back from Warwick and Southampton and Wolfson College (Cambridge).

I haven't started preparing for the BMAT/UKCAT or GAMSAT and a littl worried about what to do. I'm terrified of applying to George's without good GAMSAT preparations.

Work experience and everything else is pretty much the maximum possible ammounts etc.

I'm so worried and stressed. Cambridge would be the dream but I'm so confused as to what to do and everyone's slow to respond arghh!.

Well done! So what results/experience did you have? What do you think Birmingham looked for? Any interview tips? (Assuming I even get one!)

I have a first in my degree. I've been working as a Hca for the past year - bham seem to like paid experience. Also i'm not sure what tips to give you for the interview stage as bham have changed their interview to mini stations for 2013 entry. There are some good tips on the website though!

I've been a medical receptionist in school/uni holidays since I was 16 - not as good as a full-time HCA but I'm training as one for the summer! I've seen the bit about interviews, it seems pretty daunting to have different tasks for different aspects of your personality. So are you starting this year? How have you found the accommodation on offer? I've looked around a bit and there doesn't seem to be anything much for postgraduates (I don't want to be surrounded by loud first years!) which is very close to the area of campus I'd need to be on. Or am I just looking in the wrong place?

Re: Graduate Entry Medicine Applicants 2013
Will not doing any HCA work disadvantage me?

    Work I've done/doing;

    - Work experience in A&E (about 3 weeks worth)
    - GP work experience (loads over the years)
    - Paediatrics work experience
    - Adult Medicine work experience
    - Worked in a Pharmacy for a year
    - Been volunteering at a Hospice over the last 10 years
    - Some work shadowing at a centre which treats epilepsy.
    - Voluntary work at Olympic games (ongoing)
    - Paid work at the Olympics and Paralympics (ongoing) in team leadership roles.

I'm also looking at the possibility of doing P/T work in teaching English as a Foreign Language and perhaps doing some work abroad.

I'm a bit worried because I've not done HCA work and wonder if that will go against me? But would paid work in team leadership roles like at the Olympics and also the voluntary work and teaching, would that help?
