Whether you think cinema died with Hitchcock or only got good once Michael Bay started blowing up helicopters, this is the place where moving pictures are discussed.

Re: Your first animated film/memories/first time in the cinema/favourite childhood fi
the first animated film i ever saw was the B.F.G. the giants scared the crap out of me (i was about 2 at the time i believe so its understandable to be scared by evil giants eating small children). i used to hide behind the sofa until the giants left, especially the blood bottler.lol. however its been my favourite film ever since i watched it cos it reminds me of my childhood and sitting with my dad and sister while we watched it and it has sentimental favouritism, plus i love roald dahl.i also drove my sister mad with it because we took it in turns to pick what film to watch, and i always picked the BFG, so i ended up watching it at least once every week/fortnight till i was 4 and we had to move from my dads due to the divorce (at which point it was still watched a lot and is kind of my go-to film to watch when i need cheering up)
the other animated films of my childhood were the secret of nymh, the rescuers, feival goes west and the disney classics (snow white, alice in wonderland, dumbo, fantasia, robin hood, pinocchio, lion king etc) and they still all have a place in my heart as you cant beat the classics
unfortunately with some of them they wouldnt have been made these days in case they "scare the poor fragile children" as some of them were quite dark in comparison to todays happy kids films.

The first film I ever saw at the cinema was Lady and the Tramp, but I feel asleep during it, for practically the whole film
, so the first film I really remember watching was Disney's Hercules, which I really liked.
The films I really remember from my early childhood are the typical animated classics you associate with little girls, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Bambi, Sleeping Beauty (my sister's favourite!), Cinderella, and The Little Mermaid (my favourite!). Fairly standard, but still great
As many people have already mentioned, I think the VHS for our old Disney films physically worn out through such extensive use, they were the days

First film I remember seeing in the cinema was Hercules

Bless my soul
Herc was on a roll
Person of the week in every Greek opinion poll
What a pro
Herc could stop a show
Point him at a monster and you're talking SRO
He was a no one
A zero, zero
Now he's a honcho
He's a hero
Here was a kid with his act down pat
From zero to hero in no time flat
Zero to hero just like that

Muppet Treasure Island still makes me laugh out loud. My sister and I basically know the whole film off by heart and we often sing the songs together.
Tim Curry makes a glorious Long John Silver.
I also loved the Wallace and Gromit films when I was a kid. The Wrong Trousers would probably still make me cry.
My favourite Disney films are The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast.Last edited by whatsername2009; 07-05-2012 at 18:07.
